More on Minnesota’s 2023 campaign
Minnesota finished the 2023 campaign with a 6-7 record. The Golden Gophers won their final game of the season with a 30-24 triumph over Bowling Green in the Quick Lane Bowl. After the game, head coach PJ Fleck talked about the season and his hopes for Minnesota moving forward.
“We played a lot of other guys tonight that hadn’t played a lot of football for us. We had to rely on a lot of them,” Fleck said. “A lot of the reps our guys are going to get are going to springboard them into 2024. And I thought special teams were big tonight and had some big plays for us which really helped springboard us and gave us a lift when we really needed it.
“That’s five out of six bowl games and then five wins in a row and that’s seven in a row as a program. That’s a huge step forward, springboards us into 2024 and had a lot of our recruits here as well. A lot of our transfers have joined us, which is really good.
“Just proud of our football team for the resolve and their stick-to-it-iveness to get us to where we are. And it was good enough to be 1-0 tonight, and that’s all we wanted to become, and they did that.”
