New Mexico defensive back D’Arco Perkins-McAllister has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Perkins-McAllister will be on his second transfer after previously moving from TCU to New Mexico. He redshirted during the 2023 season at New Mexico, according to the team’s website.

In two seasons at TCU, Perkins-McAllister played in 20 games, though his impact was fairly limited.

In those two seasons of playing time, the 6-foot-1, 183-pound defensive back managed to tally seven total tackles and one pass breakup. Given his relatively light usage at the college level, it’ll be interesting to see where Perkins-McAllister lands this time around.

Coming out of high school, Perkins-McAllister was an unranked recruit.

Recruits need three major recruiting services to rank them to earn a ranking from the On3 Industry Rankings, and Perkins-McAllister was ranked by only one of the major recruiting service.

That one service was 247Sports, which ranked Perkins-McAllister as a three-star prospect with an 89 grade.

Prior to enrolling at TCU, D’Arco Perkins-McAllister played his high school football at Stratford Comprehensive in Nashville, Tenn. He committed to TCU on June 10, 2021.

The NCAA transfer portal in recent years has certainly created some challenging circumstances for various programs, and New Mexico is learning that the hard way this cycle.

The Lobos have been the victim of a lot of transfers out of the program after firing head coach Danny Green four years into his tenure. New coach Bronco Mendenhall has done what he can to steady things, but there will be some attrition.

On3 notes that there have been 23 transfers out of the New Mexico program this cycle, with only four transfers in.

So the numbers might be a little challenging early on for Mendenhall and his staff, which will now no longer have D’Arco Perkins-McAllister to work with.
