New Mexico State Aggies quarterback Eli Stowers has entered the Transfer Portal. He previously played for the Texas A&M Aggies.

During the 2023 season, Eli Stowers played in 15 games. The majority of that time he spent at wide receiver. He had 35 receptions for 366 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball 28 times for 108 yards and another two touchdowns on the ground. Stowers also had eight pass attempts and threw for 99 yards and a touchdown.

Prior to transferring to New Mexico State, Eli Stowers spent two seasons at Texas A&M, playing in three games during the 2021 season and two games during the 2022 season. He earned an Offensive Scout Team award at the annual team banquet for his 2022 season at Texas A&M.

Eli Stowers played high school football at Guyer (Texas), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 205 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The 2023 season was an excellent one for New Mexico State, going 10-5, playing for the C-USA Championship and making it to the New Mexico Bowl. That included a road win against the Auburn Tigers.

Jimbo Fisher, who Eli Stowers played for during his time at Texas A&M, was relieved of his duties. Now, the Aggies are coached by Mike Elko.

Texas A&M and the Transfer Portal

The Spring Transfer Portal window is set to open on Monday, April 15th. It will then be open for 15 days. This is the second window to transfer for players between the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Given the coaching change that Texas A&M underwent, it’s no surprise that the Aggies were active in the Transfer Portal during the winter window.

Texas A&M currently has the 44th-ranked transfer class in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 2024 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That class includes 20 players who have left the program and another 24 who have joined the program. The most recent of those transfers to commit to play for Texas A&M is Josh Celiscar, an edge rusher who previously played for UCF. However, Eli Stowers doesn’t count to that class’ numbers.

It will be interesting to follow what Texas A&M players choose to enter the Transfer Portal following Mike Elko’s first spring practice as the head coach.
