Oklahoma State transfer cornerback D.J. McKinney is staying in the Big 12.

The 6-foot, 174-pound long-armed corner committed to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes Sunday night.

McKinney picked Colorado due in large part to the coaching and development he will receive from Sanders and defensive backs coach Kevin Mathis. Sanders and Mathis combined to play 23 seasons in the NFL at the cornerback position.

McKinney heads to Colorado after an impressive redshirt freshman season in Stillwater. He made 38 tackles and five pass break ups in 14 games for the Cowboys.

The former Colleyville (Texas) Heritage High star received offers from the likes of Washington, Ole Miss, Florida, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Michigan State, West Virginia, TCU, Miami and Arkansas after entering the transfer portal January 2.

He narrowed his list to Ole Miss, Washington, Florida, Kentucky and Colorado before picking the Buffaloes.

Colorado in the Transfer Portal

McKinney becomes the 20th transfer into the Colorado program in the 2024 cycle. The Buffaloes had the No. 2 ranked transfer portal class prior to the pledge of the talented cornerback.
