Penn State transfer WR Cristian Driver, son of Donald Driver, commits to Minnesota
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have landed a highly coveted receiver prospect from the transfer portal. On Sunday evening, they landed former Penn State wideout Cristian Driver, the son of former Green Bay Packers great Donald Driver. Cristian Driver announced the news on his Twitter page. He chose the Golden Gophers over Iowa State and others.
According to Pro Football Focus, Driver totaled 27 snaps at receiver this season and another 22 snaps on special teams. He had one catch against Delaware for eight yards.
Coming out of high school, Driver held a four-star rating in the On3 Industry Rankings, coming in at No. 297 nationally. Driver finished as a four-star prospect at 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. On3 rated him a three-star prospect with an 88 overall rating.
Driver played at Liberty Christian High School in Texas. He earned more than 40 total scholarship offers coming out of high school, with most schools liking his potential best on defense. Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Wisconsin were also the three schools he also seriously considered leading up to his commitment out of high school. He finished his senior season with 56 tackles and six pass breakups. As a junior, he broke up five passes and totaled 81 tackles.
