Raymond Cottrell transferring to West Florida
WR Raymond Cottrell has committed to West Florida out of the NCAA Transfer Portal.
On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed the portal decision by Cottrell on Friday. The news comes via the receiver’s representation with A&P Sports Agency.
West Florida is a football team in Division II. The Argos play out of Pensacola and as part of the Gulf South Conference. They’re a successful program at that as they sit at 42-10 (.808) during their past four full seasons, including a win of the 2019 Division II Championship.
Cottrell spent his first collegiate season last fall at Texas A&M. He then spent the first months of this year in Lexington after originally transferring to Kentucky out the portal. However, after committing to the Wildcats in December and spending the spring in the bluegrass, he re-entered his name in mid-April.
The last report regarding his recruitment came back at the start of May with Cottrell taking a visit to Arizona State.
Cottrell appeared in three games while a freshman in College Station. In those games with the Aggies, he caught one pass that went for a 13-yard score.
Cottrell was able redshirt after that short stint at A&M. That now leaves him with four years of college eligibility left.
Cottrell played high school football at Milton (FL), which is just a half hour northeast of Pensacola. He was a four-star prospect there as the No. 230 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was also the No. 33 WR in the class and the No. 45 player out of the state.

Cottrell flipped his commitment to Texas A&M after originally committing to Georgia. This came amidst national interest during his recruitment from others like Alabama, Florida State, and Florida. Still, with him signing with the Aggies, he joined the No. 15 class in the nation as one of its 20 recruits.
This was On3’s scouting report of Cottrell as an incoming college player.
“Big-bodied route running savant that can dominate at the catch point and run through defenders with the ball in his hands,” they wrote. “Thicker athletic build with excellent muscle definition and weight distribution. Body control and change of direction shine on tape. See the bend and burst in his route running and as a ball carrier working between the tackles. Excellent leg drive and ability to pull through arm tackles.”
“Natural pass catcher. Can manipulate his body to put himself in the best position to catch the ball. Top end speed is solid. Ran an 11.13 100m during his sophomore track season,” they continued. “One of the most complete offensive weapons in the country. Has the ability to elevate any roster in Power Five football.”
