Report: James Madison transfer Terrence Edwards commits to Louisville
According to Jeff Goodman, Louisville has landed a commitment from James Madison guard transfer Terrence Edwards Jr. A huge pickup for newly hired head coach Pat Kelsey as he looks to turn the Cardinals around.
“Louisville has landed JMU transfer Terrence Edwards Jr., source told @TheFieldOf68,” Goodman said via X. “Edwards averaged 17.2 points this past season. Big pickup for new coach Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals in the rebuild.”
Edwards is coming off a career-year season, winning Sun Belt Player of the Year. In 36 games played, he averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. The shooting numbers are impressive as well, being 34.3% from three and 42.7% from the field.
From a team perspective, James Madison won the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013 and just the sixth time in program history. The Dukes pulled off the classic 5/12 upset of Wisconsin in the first round before losing to the Duke Blue Devils a couple of days later.
However, if you add in a Sun Belt Tournament championship, it’s a season they will never forget in Harrisonburg.

Louisville was not the only ACC program in on Edwards. On3’s Joe Tipton reported Florida State was hosting him on a visit, taking place on Monday and Tuesday. But just a day later, Edwards committed to Kelsey and the Cardinals.
Per On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings, Edwards is currently the No. 51 player to enter this cycle.
Terrence Edwards makes portal commitment No. 3 for Louisville
Edwards is the third player Kelsey has gotten to transfer to Louisville. Two former Charleston players, James Scott and Reyne Smith will be heading to the Commonwealth as well, hoping to continue the success they’ve had under their head coach.
Scott is coming off his first season in college basketball, only averaging 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while playing around 16 minutes a night. However, the center blocked 45 shots and shot 79.2% from the field. All the potential in the world is there for the big man.
As for Smith, he was Charleston’s leading scorer in 2023-2024, going for 12.8 points per game. He was nearly a 40% shooter from three-pointers. Kelsey’s style having an experienced guard in there to pair with Edwards is a nice touch.
