Report: Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson set for three visits
One of the top targets in the college hoops Transfer Portal, former Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson, is starting to get serious with his recruitment. According to Maryland-based reporter Jeff Ermann, Dickinson will visit the University of Maryland soon, along with Kansas and Georgetown. However, Ermann noted, he is not taking a visit today to Villanova, as had been rumored.
Here was Ermann’s report, which he tweeted out on Saturday morning:
“No truth to rumors that Hunter Dickinson is visiting Villanova today, he told me. Wouldn’t be shocked if he visits there at some point, but as of right now it’s still just Georgetown on Saturday, Maryland on Sunday and Kansas next Thurs.”
So, Maryland, Georgetown and Kansas on the docket with Villanova another possible visit destination, although he is confirmed not to be on a visit with the Wildcats as of Saturday.
The Dickinson to Maryland whispers have been strong since the moment he entered the portal. While there’s no clear favorite yet, the fellow Big Ten power has to be considered one of the top threats to land this big fish out of the portal pond. And he’d be a heck of a big to pair with senior point guard Jahmir Young, who has already announced his return. Sure, the Terps lose some other pieces, but with little more than the Dickinson-Young combo, they’ll still get a lot of preseason buzz.

Meanwhile, Georgetown is starting from scratch — but what a way to kick off the Ed Cooley era if he’s able to haul in the No. 1 player in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. The Hoyas are looking at a total overhaul in year one and there would be no better foundation for their roster than an All-American Big Ten center.
Lastly, Kansas is reportedly getting a visit as well and that fit is enticing for both sides. Bill Self doesn’t appear to want to go into next season like he did this past one: with no established big men. The dearth of bodies down low eventually led to Self deploying 6-foot-7 forward KJ Adams as the team’s center for most matchups. Ultimately, it was the size and athleticism of Arkansas that did them in during the NCAA Tournament, so Kansas’ pursuit of Dickinson is a sign that Coach Self wants to get back to the days of the Jayhawks having a dominant big man.
All good options for Dickinson, who should start to narrow down where he’ll go as he takes these upcoming visits.
