Rice transfer defensive back Jordan Dunbar commits to Kansas State
Rice transfer defensive back Jordan Dunbar committed to Kansas State on Friday afternoon, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. He chose Kansas State over his other finalists, Marshall and Western Kentucky.
He redshirted last year for the Rice Owls.
Rice finished with a 6-7 overall record last year, including a 4-4 record in the AAC. They wrapped up the season with a 45-21 loss to the Texas State Bobcats in the Servpro First Responder Bowl. They’ll open up their 2024 campaign against the Sam Houston Bearkats on August 31st.
Kansas State had an impressive year last season, finishing with a 9-4 overall record and 6-3 in the Big 12 Conference. The Wildcats finished the year with a 28-19 win over the NC State Wolfpack in the Pop Tarts Bowl. In the 2024 campaign, KSU will open up with the UT-Martin Skyhawks (August 31st).
In 2022, Dunbar earned All-C-USA honorable mention honors while starting 12 of 13 games, leading the team with a career-high 10 pass breakups. He also tied for ninth in Conference USA with his 10 pass breakups and had 19 pass breakups in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, he was second on the team to Gabriel Taylor with 651 snaps, including a game-high of 80 vs. Florida Atlantic.

In 2021, Dunbar earned C-USA All-Freshman Team honors, leading all C-USA freshmen with nine pass breakups. He also tied for the team lead and 10th in the conference with nine passes defended.
He played his high school football for Iona Prep, leading the Gaels to an 8-1 record and the semifinals of the New York Catholic High School League AAA state playoffs. His team was undefeated in league play. Dunbar was also named all-league after racking up 44 tackles (four tackles for loss) and breaking up 12 passes his senior year. Throughout his career, he had 71 total tackles (nine tackles for loss), four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 25 breakups. Dunbar earned USA Today All-State honors as a junior.
His father, JeRome Dunbar, played basketball at Albany State and his mother, Juliet, ran track at Harvard. His cousin, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, played for Boston College and suited up for eight seasons in the National Football League, playing with the Saints and the Rams.
