Report: Texas A&M safety Sam McCall plans to enter transfer portal during spring window
Texas A&M safety Sam McCall plans to enter the transfer portal when the spring window opens, according to a report from Matt Zenitz. He started his college career at Florida State.
McCall appeared in 12 games a year ago for Texas A&M, totaling six tackles and a pass defended for the Aggies. It was his first season in College Station after playing in eight games in 2022 at FSU, finishing with five tackles in that time.
Sam McCall played high school football at Lake Gibson (Fla.) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 58 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

More on Texas A&M in the transfer portal as the Mike Elko era begins

Mathews has played in 20 games over two seasons with the Aggies, totaling more than 50 tackles from his safety spot.
Texas A&M has brought in 23 players from the portal so far this season as Mike Elko settles in as the Aggies’ head coach. The program suffered some notable losses, though, with Walter Nolen and Evan Stewart leaving the biggest holes as they headed to Ole Miss and Oregon, respectively. Nolen was the No. 2 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings and Stewart came in right behind him at No. 4 overall.
Despite the key departures, Texas A&M has also made some big additions in the portal. Former Purdue EDGE Nic Scourton – the No. 10 overall transfer in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings – is the biggest fish Elko has reeled in so far after a big year with the Boilermakers. He totaled 50 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks while breaking up three passes.
Texas A&M will kick off the 2023 season on Aug. 31 at Kyle Field against Notre Dame. Of course, it will be a reunion of sorts for Elko. He’ll be not only facing his former program, but his old quarterback at Duke, Riley Leonard.
