Georgia transfer Jonathan Jefferson commits to SMU

Former Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson has committed to SMU, he announced on Instagram on Monday.

Jefferson was a four-star recruit in the class of 2021. He appeared in seven games this season, making one tackle.

Jonathan Jefferson was ranked as the No. 14 defensive tackle in the On3 transfer portal industry rankings.

He appeared in 13 games and mad six tackles during his time with the Bulldogs.

Jefferson attended Douglas County High, prior to coming to Georgia. As a senior in 2020, he finished with 19 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 11 games.

During his high school career, he recorded 254 tackles, 51 tackles for loss and 41 sacks.

Jefferson will help SMU as the Mustangs transition to the ACC, beginning in 2024.

Jefferson won a pair of national titles during his time at Georgia and helped the Bulldogs to a 12-1 season this year. Georgia will face Florida State in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.

SMU is 11-2 on the year and will face Boston College in the Fenway Bowl.
