South Carolina RB transfer Mario Anderson receives offer from Oklahoma, interest from multiple schools
Mario Anderson has only been in the transfer portal for a couple of hours following his entry on Friday. Even so, the running back from South Carolina has quickly garnered interest from across the country.
Per On3’s Pete Nakos, Oklahoma has already made an offer to the Gamecocks’ leading rusher from this season. Washington, USC, Wake Forest, Cal, and Indiana have also made contact with Anderson in the past few hours.
After four seasons at Newberry in Division II, Anderson transferred to South Carolina and came to Columbia earlier this year. In his lone season with the Gamecocks, he ran for 707 yards and three touchdowns on 143 carries as the team’s lead back.
With Gavin Sawchuck, a redshirt freshman, and Tawee Walker leading Oklahoma in rushing, the Sooners could be looking for some more production in the backfield. Regardless of if he’d be the feature back or be extra depth, Anderson could provide that in Norman in his sixth collegiate season.
Still, this is just the interest from the first couple of hours of Anderson’s availability. If that’s any suggestion as to what could follow, he will be a highly sought-after player in the portal this cycle.
