Stetson guard Jalen Blackmon enters NCAA transfer portal
Stetson guard Jalen Blackmon has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.
Blackmon started off his collegiate career at Grand Canyon, where he averaged just 2.7 points per game in his 23 game appearances off the bench before transferring to Stetson. Making an immediate impact for the Hatters in his first season with the program.
In his sophomore season Blackmon led Stetson in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game in his 31 game appearances and 27 starts. Adding 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game to his stat line to earn the ASUN Newcomer of the Year award and First-Team All-Conference honors.
Blackmon would take his game to another level this past season, named First-Team All-Conference yet again after averaging a career-high 21.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Leading the Hatters in scoring yet again while shooting a career-high 42.8% from the field and 38.1% from the three-point line.
He helped lead Stetson to the program’s first ASUN Championship and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament, named MVP of the ASUN Tournament after scoring a championship game record 43 points in a 94-91 win over Austin Peay. Going on to record 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in the Hatters’ first-round NCAA Tournament matchup against top-seeded UConn.

Blackmon played high school hoops at Marion High School in Indiana, where he was an unrated, unranked prospect in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. But two major recruiting companies rated him as a three-star prospect and a top 50 combo guard in the country.
He only had three offers our of high school. But after ending the 2023-2024 season as the nation’s 14th leading scorer, many teams across the nation will surely be rolling out the red carpet for Blackmon following his transfer portal entry. Boasting 22 20+ point scoring games and six 30+ point scoring games in his college career.
Blackmon is notably the son of former Kentucky player James Blackmon Sr. and the brother of former Indiana guard James Blackmon Jr.. Blackmon Sr. was named to the McDonald’s All-American and Parade All-American teams in high school before becoming a long-time Indiana high school head basketball coach and back-to-back state champion following his career with the Wildcats.
Meanwhile his brother averaged 16.3 points per game in his three-year career with the Hoosiers, earning Third-Team All-Big Ten honors before signing with the the Philadelphia 76ers as an undrafted free agent in 2017 prior to his career playing overseas.
