Syracuse guard Justin Taylor has entered his name into the transfer portal.

Taylor just finished his second season with the Orange. The sophomore had appeared in 61 games in his stint with the team, including starting in all 32 of his appearances this past year.

In his career, Taylor averaged 4.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game. In that time, he also shot 36.4% from the field and 34% from three.

During the ’23-’24 season, Taylor put up career-highs across the board, including in points (five), rebounds (four), and assists (one) while also shooting a tad worse in a larger role at 35.2% overall and 30.1% from three.

Taylor played high school basketball at IMG Academy in Florida, even though he’s a native of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was a four-star prospect and the No. 122 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 30 SF in the class and a Top-20 player out of the state, including behind four of his high-school teammates.

Texas to play in 2024 Legends Classic in Barclays Center vs. Texas Tech, Syracuse, Saint Joseph’s

Texas is hoping to close out the 2023-2024 season on a high note with the NCAA Tournament on deck. The non-conference schedule for next year, though, is already beginning to take shape.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Texas would participate in the 2024 Legends Classic in Brooklyn, New York.

“The University of Texas Men’s Basketball team will join Syracuse, Saint Joseph’s, and Texas Tech in the 2023 Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper at Barclays Center on November 21-22, 2024, the Gazelle Group announced Wednesday,” a statement said. “Semifinal pairings and television coverage will be announced at a later date.”

History is there with all three other programs for Texas but one sticks out more than the other. Potentially playing Texas Tech would reignite a rivalry we thought would go dormant for some time.

Texas does have a history with the other two teams participating in the 2024 Legends Classic, albeit a lot smaller.

If you go back to Syracuse’s last national championship during the 2003 NCAA Tournament, they played Texas in the Final Four. Saint Joseph’s once faced Texas in Maui, coming during the 2008 season. We do not know if Texas will wind up facing Syracuse or Saint Joseph’s but another game will be added to the record books against at least one of them.
