Essam Mostafa is originally from Egypt. He came to the United States for his freshman season of high school, attending Arlington Country Day in Arlington, Texas.

Mostafa signed with Coastal Carolina in the class of 2019. He redshirted his first year on campus, before becoming a starter for the Chanticleers in 2020-21.

That season, he averaged 12.2 points per game while playing nearly 25 minutes per night. He also led Coastal Carolina in rebounds at 8.9 per game.

As a sophomore in 2021-22, Essam Mostafa played in all 33 games and made 31 starts. He averaged 13 points per game and finished second in the conference with 9.4 rebounds per contest.

His final season at Coastal came in 2023 when he averaged 12.4 points per game, playing in 26 games, with 25 starts.

Mostafa then entered the transfer portal, ending up at TCU.

TCU transfer Micah Peavy commits to Georgetown

TCU center Essam Mostafa isn’t the only Horned Frogs player who has entered the transfer portal this offseason.

Over the weekend, former TCU shooting guard Micah Peavy announced that he’ll be playing for the Georgetown Hoyas next fall. Peavy made the announcement on Saturday night via his Instagram page. He averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game this year, bringing home honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.

Peavy said he chose Ed Cooley and the Hoyas over offers from Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, and Creighton, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Peavy managed to pull of just the third triple-double in TCU program history with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists against Arizona State. A dynamic defender, he tallied three or more steals in a game five times, including a season-high four against Texas A&M Commerce.

TCU finished with a 21-13 overall record this year, losing in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament to Utah State, 88-72. In that game, Peavy scored seven points in 29 minutes, only connecting on 3 of his 11 shots from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Utah State had four players score in double figures. JaKobe Coles led the Horned Frogs in scoring with 19 points. Emanuel Miller also scored in double digits for TCU (13 points).
