Texas A&M defensive back Tyreek Chappell won’t be leaving the Aggies program after all.

Chappell has withdrawn from the transfer portal, On3 has learned. He started 21 games over the past two seasons for the Aggies.

The Philadelphia native gives first-year head coach Mike Elko a really good player to build around in the secondary. Chappell has been a major contributor since signing with Texas A&M as a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, per the On3 Industry rankings.

As a freshman that season Tyreek Chappell appeared in all 12 games and made eight starts. He led the Aggies and was in the top five in the SEC that year with nine pass breakups. He also had 41 tackles and was named to the freshman All-SEC team.

Chappell moved into a full-time starter role in 2022, starting all 11 games that he played in. He once again led the team in pass breakups, this time recording eight. Chappell finished with 44 tackles in 2022.

As a junior this past season, Chappell was once again in the starting lineup. He started all 10 games he appeared in, recording 21 tackles and an interception.

Tyreek Chappell then entered the transfer portal in December after three seasons with the Aggies. However, he will now stay on at Texas A&M and remain with the program.

It’s no surprise that it has been a busy year for Texas A&M with the transfer portal. Coaching changes typically lead to players leaving and entering the program, and that’s what happened with the Aggies.

Texas A&M lost former five-star recruit Walter Nolan to the transfer portal this offseason. Nolan, who was the top recruit in the class of 2022, ended up at Ole Miss.

Texas AM also lost former four-star safety Jardin Gilbert to the portal, as well as former five-star receiver Evan Stewart and several others.

While Texas A&M lost several talented players to the transfer portal, the Aggies also brought in some talent via the portal.

Texas A&M has landed several transfers already this offseason, including former five-star cornerback Dezz Ricks. Ricks came to Texas A&M after transferring from Alabama.

Other transfers the Aggies brought in include Tre Watson from Washington, Jaydon Hill from Florida and Nic Scourton from Purdue.

Texas A&M is coming off of a 7-6 season in 2023. The Aggies will begin the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 against Notre Dame. The game will be played at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
