Texas Tech sophomore Lamar Washington has entered the transfer portal following two seasons with the Red Raiders, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Washington was dependable, playing in 62 total games across two seasons, starting three of them as a freshman, when he averaged 3.4 points per game. In his second year in 2024, that number dipped to just 2.1 points per game while his minutes per night dropped from 15 to eight.

Washington was actually once listed as a football prospect in the 2022 recruiting class by On3. As a 6’4 linebacker, he garnered some attention from Washington State, who even offered him a scholarship, as well as a few Division II programs.

However, Washington decided to pursue his exploits on the basketball court, where Texas Tech was willing to take him on. Now, after a couple seasons playing in a more reserve role, Washington will evaluate his options in the transfer portal.

Other Texas Tech transfer

Washington was not the first Red Raider to hop in the portal, as veteran forward Devan Cambridge also announced plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, which he revealed to On3. He appeared in eight games for the Red Raiders this season before suffering a season-ending injury.

Cambridge started his career at Auburn, appearing in 91 games – including 33 starts – over three years on The Plains. He then transferred to Arizona State for the 2022-23 season and put up the best numbers of his career, averaging 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds while starting 35 of 36 games while playing alongside his brother, Desmond Cambridge.

Unfortunately, at Tech, Cambridge didn’t see the court much and was out for the season following a knee injury he suffered in early December against Omaha. 2024 was supposed to be his fifth year, but given that the injury limited him to just eight total games, Cambridge should have no problem getting a medical redshirt for the year so he can play one more.

Cambridge played high school basketball at Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 228 overall player from the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
