Texas Tech point guard Pop Isaacs plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Texas Tech point guard Pop Isaacs is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. He spent the past two seasons with the Red Raiders and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Isaacs is coming off of a season in which he led Texas Tech with 15.8 points per game. He was instrumental in helping the Red Raiders to a successful first season under coach Grant McCasland as they reached the NCAA Tournament after missing in 2023.
The 6-foot-2 guard arrived in Lubbock with high expectations as a freshman in 2022-23. He didn’t fail to live up to the hype as he averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals to earn Big 12 All-Freshman honors. He also led Tech with 62 3-pointers made at a 37.8% clip.
Isaacs would go on to build upon those numbers this past season as he took another step forward. On a Jan. 20 game against BYU, he would set a new career high with 32 points on 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Not only that, but he chipped in five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
As a recruit, Isaacs was a four-star prospect out of Coronado High School in Las Vegas. He ranked as the No. 92 overall player and No. 15 point guard in the 2022 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Isaacs was named the Southern Nevada Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. He chose to attend Texas Tech over offers from Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Arkansas and many more.
“I chose Texas Tech because of the trust I have with the staff,” Isaacs said at the time. “They don’t have a point guard right now and they’re going to put the ball in my hands from day one. Also, it was a family environment and it felt like home.”
Those will be some names to watch as Pop Isaacs enters the transfer portal. However, with the way he’s played over the past few seasons, he’s likely to draw interest from new programs as well.
Either way, he’s sure to be one of the top names in the portal, and it will be interesting to see how his recruitment develops. Look for him to bring the same energy and passion with him that he showed in Lubbock and make an impact right away.
