Transfer portal breakdown: The On3 transfers of the week from Week 9
Here are the On3 transfer players of the week for Week Nine.
We pick a transfer of the week in each Power 5 conference as well as an overall Group of 5 transfer of the week. It’s not just transfers from this past offseason; all players who have transferred from other four-year schools are eligible to be selected
Everything being equal, more weight is given to big performances against “good” opponents.
ACC
CB Kei’Trel Clark, Louisville
The buzz: Louisville forced eight turnovers, including an incredible six in the third quarter alone, in a 48-21 upset of Wake Forest. Clark, who transferred from Liberty after the 2019 season, had one of Louisville’s four picks, returning it 46 yards for a TD one minute into the third period to give Louisville the lead for good at 20-14. He also had six tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup.
Big Ten
RB Chase Brown, Illinois
The buzz: Illinois moved to 7-1 behind another big game from Brown, the nation’s leading rusher. He rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown, and also had a TD reception in the Illini’s 26-9 win at Nebraska. Brown, who transferred from Western Michigan after the 2018 season, has rushed for 100 yards in each game this season and reached the 146-yard mark in five of them. The TD reception was his third of the season; it came with 23 seconds left in the first half and gave Illinois a 20-9 halftime lead. Nebraska didn’t threaten at all in the second half.
Big 12
WR Kade Warner, Kansas State
The buzz: Warner, who transferred from Nebraska in the offseason, had five catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns as K-State mauled Oklahoma State 48-0. His first TD catch, a 38-yarder, opened the scoring four minutes into the game. His second was a 41-yarder with 9:06 left in the first half that gave the Wildcats a 28-0 lead. Both TD passes were thrown by backup QB Will Howard, who started in place of an injured Adrian Martinez. Warner, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner, now has four TD receptions this season.

QB Caleb Williams, USC
The buzz: Williams was without his top two receivers, but it didn’t matter as he threw for 411 yards and five TDs as the Trojans outlasted Arizona 45-37. With Jordan Addison and Mario Williams out with injuries, Caleb Williams completed passes to 10 receivers in going 31-of-45. Williams, who followed Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC in the offseason, threw single TD passes in the first, second and fourth quarters and tossed two in the third period. And all five TD passes went to guys who had zero TDs coming in. He threw two to Tahj Washington and one each to Raleek Brown, Kyle Ford and Brenden Rice. Ford had just two catches coming in but had six vs. Arizona. Williams helped USC roll up 611 yards of offense and go 11-of-17 on third down.
SEC
QB Hendon Hooker, Tennessee
The buzz: Another week, another productive performance from Hooker, who transferred from Virginia Tech after the 2020 season. He threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 23 yards and another score as the Vols blasted Kentucky 44-6. Tennessee scored five plays into the game on a 55-yard pass from Hooker to Jalin Hyatt and led the rest of the way. Hooker threw another TD pass to Hyatt with 22 seconds left in the first half for a 27-6 lead. He scored on an 8-yard run late in the third quarter and finished off the scoring with another TD pass, this one to Jabari Small, midway through the final period. He finished 19-of-25, his sixth game this season with a completion percentage of at least 70.0.
Group of 5
RB R.J. Harvey, UCF
The buzz: Harvey went into the AAC showdown with Cincinnati with just 37 carries on the season, but he was the key back for the Knights in their 25-21 win over the Bearcats. Harvey, who transferred from Virginia after the 2019 season, rushed 18 times for 84 yards and two TDs. His first TD run came late in the first quarter and gave UCF a 10-0 lead. The other one, a 17-yarder, came with 48 seconds left in the fourth period and was the game-winner.
