Transfer Portal: Top 10 players to enter on Day Two

The college basketball transfer portal opened on Monday to start the 45-day window where all men’s college basketball players will be able to enter the transfer portal without penalty. It has been a busy 48 hours with over 350 players submitting their names.

Let’s discuss the top ten players who entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, March 19.

1. G Kanaan Carlyle, Stanford

The Buzz: Kanaan Carlyle is a former top 50 recruit who played with the Atlanta (GA) Overtime Elite program in his final year of high school. The freshman originally from Georgia averaged 11.5 points and 2.7 assists per game. The freshman guard is listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Carlyle took over the No. 1 spot in On3’s transfer portal rankings.

2. G Ja’Kobe Gillespie, Belmont

The Buzz: Ja’Kobe Gillespie earned MVC All-Defense and second-team All-MVC this season after averaging 17.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.2 steals this season. The 6-0, 175-pound sophomore is originally from Greenville, Tennessee.

3. C Tarris Reed, Michigan

The Buzz: Tarris Reed is a former top 50 recruit who played his senior season at Branson (MO) Link Academy. The 6-foot-10 center started 31 games this season averaging 9.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 51.9 percent from the field. Reed, a sophomore, is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. 

4. G Andrej Stojakovic, Stanford

The Buzz: Andrej Stojakovic is a former four-star recruit and a McDonald’s All-American. The 6-foot-7 wing played in 32 games, starting ten and averaging 7.8 points. Stojakovic is the son of former NBA forward Peja Stojakovic. The freshman graduated from Carmichael (CA) Jesuit High School. 

5. G Tyson Acuff, Eastern Michigan

The Buzz: Tyson Acuff’s 21.7 points finished eighth in NCAA D1 men’s basketball this season. He has scored 1,014 total points in his two seasons at Eastern Michigan. The 6-foot-4 junior graduated from Detroit (MI) Cass Tech and started his college career at Duquesne. 

6. G Damarco Minor, SIU-Edwardsville

The Buzz: Damarco Minor earned first-team All-OVC honors this season. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 15.5 points and 3.1 assists and his 8.5 rebounds per game finished third in conference. Minor, a junior, is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and started his college career at South Suburban College.

7. F Jyare Davis, Delaware

The Buzz: Jyare Davis earned second-team All-CAA honors this season after winning CAA Tournament MVP last year and CAA Rookie of the Year the season before that. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward averaged 17.1 points and 7.5 rebounds this season. Davis, a redshirt junior, is a native of Delaware who started his college career at Providence where he redshirted his freshman 

8. F BJ Omot, North Dakota

The Buzz: BJ Omot earned first-team All-Summit honors this season after averaging 16.7 points and 4.2 rebounds this season. Omot, a sophomore, is a 6-foot-8, 175-pound forward who graduated from Mankato (MN) Mankato East High School.

9. G Chaunce Jenkins, Old Dominion

The Buzz: Chaunce Jenkins earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors this season after being named third-team last season. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 15.9 points and 2.7 assists. The redshirt junior is originally from Newport News, Virginia, and started his college career at Wichita State. 

10. F Ansley Almonor, Fairleigh Dickinson

The Buzz: Ansley Almonor earned first-team All-NEC honors this season after finishing second in the conference with 16.7 points per game. The 6-foot-7 forward shot 39.4 percent from three this season on 7.4 attempts per game. Almonor, a junior, is originally from New York.
