Florida transfer running back Trevor Etienne commits to Georgia
Trevor Etienne will be on the other side of the World’s Largest Cocktail Party in 2024.
The former Florida running back has announced his commitment to Georgia. The brother of former Clemson star and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, the younger brother announced his decision after entering the portal on Dec. 7.
Before the former four-star recruit decided to enter the portal, rumors had been building for weeks that he would enter college football’s free agency. While schools like Texas, LSU and Clemson were all tossed around early in his recruitment, the Bulldogs have always been the clear-cut leader.
With two years of eligibility, he’ll have the chance to help Georgia return to the College Football Playoff. In two seasons with the Gators, Etienne rushed for 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns. Arguably Florida’s top back, he will now be on the other side of the rivalry game.
Why adding running back was important for Georgia
With Kendall Milton off to the NFL, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs wanted to add a veteran back to their roster. Georgia has plenty of talent coming in at the position in its 2024 recruiting class — Nathaniel Frazier, Dwight Phillips and Chauncey Bowens.
With experience in the SEC, Etienne will be a good fit to help Georgia develop the three freshmen. Maybe more importantly, it will provide a strong complement to Carson Beck on the backfield in the 2024 season.
It’s a major portal pickup for the Bulldogs, too. Trevor Etienne sits as the No. 1 running back in On3’s transfer portal rankings.
