Following the firing of Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery on Sunday, starting quarterback Davis Brin entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday. He posted a message to Tulsa fans on Twitter on Monday afternoon, thanking his coaches and revealing that he is looking for a new home for his final year of eligibility.

Brin will be immediately eligible to play for his next program after spending two years as the starter for the Golden Hurricane. He threw for 2,138 yards this season in nine games played. He finished the year with a 59.2% completion rate and a 17-to-8 touchdown to interception ratio.

The Boerne, Texas native had a more productive junior season in 2021, throwing for 3,254 yards while leading Tulsa to the Myrtle Beach Bowl. However, in 2022, he dramatically improved his ball security, cutting his interceptions in half while maintaining a 59% completion percentage.

The team started 3-7, including 1-5 in AAC play, before winning its final two games over USF and Houston.

Montgomery, a former Baylor offensive coordinator, had been at Tulsa since 2015. His best season came during his second year when he led the Golden Hurricane to a 10-3 record. Tulsa has since finished four of the last six seasons with losing records.

Several candidates have emerged at Tulsa to replace Montgomery. One of them is GJ Kinne, the Incarnate Word head coach who comes off the Gus Malzahn tree. He is known for his explosive offenses. There are also several re-tread hires being talked about, like Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odam and Justin Fuente.

One notable candidate at Tulsa is Mickey Joseph. The interim coach who replaced Scott Frost at Nebraska will be looking for a new home in 2023. That could very well be as a head coach.
