UCLA QB Justyn Martin plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
UCLA quarterback Justyn Martin plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Monday evening. Martin spent the past three seasons with the Bruins and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Martin made the first start of his college career this season against Penn State. He finished that game 22-of-30 passing for 167 yards and a touchdown, but the Bruins lost 27-11.
Martin committed to UCLA as a four-star prospect in the 2022 class out of Inglewood (CA) High School. He ranked as the No. 256 overall player and No. 16 quarterback in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Martin went on the spend the next three years primarily in a backup role and will presumably look to prove what he can do as a starter at his next stop. His recruiting rankings in high school certainly make him interesting as a potential transfer target for teams needing a QB.
Justyn Martin is not the only player to transfer so far after a disappointing 5-7 finish for UCLA in 2024. Leading rusher TJ Harden also announced his plans to enter the portal on Monday.
That puts the pressure on coach DeShaun Foster to reload his roster heading into his second year at the helm.
