Jordan Sears, a guard who just finished his second year at UT-Martin, is entering his name into the transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Sears started his career at Gardner-Webb before coming to join the Skyhawks for the last two years.

In his 121 games, Sears has averaged 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, three assists, and 1.1 steals in 27.5 minutes per game. He has done so while shooting 43.7% from the field, 35.5% from three, and 81.8% from the free-throw line.

Sears’ last two seasons at UT-Martin are where he has really taken a step forward. In 64 games as a Skyhawk, he has averaged 18.5 points, four rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 31 minutes a night while shooting 45.5% overall and 39.1% from three. In that time, he has been a two-time member of the All-OVC First Team and the All-OVC Tournament Team

This past season was Sears’ best at the collegiate level as one of the top scorers in the nation. He averaged career-highs across the board with 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.3 steals while knocking down 43.2% of his shots as well as his threes.

That point average of 21.6 was good for a tie with Drake’s Tucker DeVries for eight-most in the nation. That was behind only a handful of players like Purdue’s Zach Edey, Illinois’ Terrence Shannon Jr., and Memphis’ David Jones. It was also more than the likes of North Carolina’s R.J. Davis, the ACC Player of the Year, and Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht, the SEC Player of the Year.

Per On3’s 2024 Top Portal Players, Sears is now the No. 19 transfer available in the portal. He is currently the No. 3 PG behind only Michigan’s Dug McDaniel and Washington’s Koren Johnson.

UT-Martin already lost Jacob Crews, their other leader in production, to the portal this month. Crews transferred earlier in March and has since committed to Missouri.

We’ll have to see who gets involved with the likes of Sears with his name available. Top scorers of his caliber don’t always pop up, though, which could make him a hot commodity for teams shopping around for transfers.

More on Crews’ commitment to Missouri

Former UT Martin guard Jacob Crews has committed to Missouri via the NCAA Transfer Portal according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

This past season, Crews averaged 19.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 41.4% from beyond the arc. For his efforts, Crews was an All-OVC First Team member and selected for the OVC All-Newcomer Team.

Crews is currently the No. 21 overall player in the transfer portal according to On3. He is the first player Missouri has landed in the transfer portal during this cycle. Crews averaged 19.9 points per game in the 2022-23 season at Daytona State. He previously averaged 2.6 at North Florida in his debut campaign.

Jacob Crews played high school basketball at Superior Collegiate Academy (FL) where he was an unranked prospect. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
