Utah RB Ja'Quinden Jackson enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Utah running back Ja’Quinden Jackson entered the transfer portal, On3 has learned. He also spent a year at Texas, where he played some QB, before playing the last three for the Utes.
Jackson came out of high school as a very highly-rated quarterback prospect. At 6’2 with plenty of ability on his feet plus a nice arm, he was a recruiting prize for Texas when he committed as part of the 2020 class. Per the On3 Industry Rankings, Jackson was a four-star player, the No. 85 overall recruit and the No. 6 QB in the cycle.
However, after just one year in Austin, Jackson made the jump north to Utah, where he never caught on as a quarterback but developed into a dangerous running back in the Utes’ rotation over the last two seasons.
In 2022, Jackson rushed for 531 total yards on 6.8 yards per carry, good for third on a Utah team that absolutely hammered the rock. Well, the same was true in 2023, even more so this time thanks to a season-long injury to quarterback Cam Rising. The offense wasn’t nearly as productive, but Ja’Quinden Jackson did lead the way on the ground with 797 yards and four touchdowns on just 5.0 yards per carry this time.
