Utah State quarterback Cooper Legas has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Legas enters the transfer portal after spending the last five years with the Aggies, as the veteran passer who’s appeared in 19 games with 15 starts throwing for 3,485 yards and 32 touchdowns will look to call a new program home to end his college career.

After redshirting in his freshman season and making zero game appearance during the shortened 2020 COVID season, Legas finally saw some playing time in 2021. Appearing in two games for Utah State where he competed 11 of his 20 pass attempts for 171 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

During the 2022 season Legas appeared 10 games and made eight starts, throwing for 1,499 yards with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Also rushing for a career-high 303 yards and two scores on the ground. And this past season, Legas started seven of the nine games where he threw for a career-high 1,815 yards and 19 touchdowns (8 interceptions).

Legas was a three-star prospect out of Orem High School in Utah, where he was ranked the No. 1,705 overall player and No. 92 quarterback in the country for the 2019 recruiting cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.

The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such as contact info, whether the player was on scholarship and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.

A player can ask that a “do not contact” tag be placed on the report. In those instances, the players don’t want to be contacted by schools unless they’ve initiated the communication.
