Utah transfer WR Mikey Matthews commits to California
Former Utah wide receiver Mikey Matthews has committed to California, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Matthews only spent one season with the Utes, making 12 appearances and six starts. Matthews was a standout freshman, hauling in 29 receptions for 261 yards. He was also an active returner, boasting 15 kick returns for 309 yards and 17 punt returns for 75 yards.
Mikey Matthews played high school football at Mission Viejo (Calif.), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 235 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Matthews is the 10th player to commit to California in the transfer portal during this window. The 5-foot-8, 180-pound freshman is the lone former four-star recruit in the transfer class. Nonetheless, California is currently ranked No. 12 in the On3 Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
Matthews was the No. 2 wide receiver still available in the transfer portal. He was the No. 49 overall player to enter the transfer portal this window, per On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
