Vanderbilt has picked up a big-time addition from the transfer portal. Former TCU safety Randon Fontenette has committed to the Commodores, he announced on Twitter on Thursday night.

Fontenette is a former four-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 224 overall player in the country in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

He appeared in all 12 games as a freshman this season at TCU, finishing the year with 16 tackles.

Randon Fontenette attended Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas.

As a senior in high school, he finished with 82 tackles, four interceptions, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick. Fontenette also played offense, rushing for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns, while passing for 1,000 yards and nine scores.

He was named the District 12-4A D-I Offensive Most Valuable Player as a junior after passing for 1,440 yards and 21 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,066 yards and 12 scores.

However, it’s defense where he is expected to play for Vanderbilt. This is a big addition for Commodores head coach Clark Lea as he looks to continue to build the Vanderbilt program.
