Vanderbilt defensive back Quantaves Gaskins has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. He spent two seasons with the Commodores.

Gaskins did not see action during his true freshman season with the program. In the 2023 campaign as a sophomore, Gaskins played in five games, tallying five total tackles. Four of those tackles came in Gaskins’ debut showing against Georgia.

Quantaves Gaskins played high school football at Hapeville Charter (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 600 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Gaskins’ father played football at Central Florida and his uncle, Matt Elam, played at Florida. Coming out of high school, Gaskins chose Vanderbilt over South Carolina, Missouri, Duke and Georgia Tech.

Gaskins is the 23rd Vanderbilt player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign. To soften the blow of its losses, the program has added 14 players via the portal, earning the No. 45 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Vanderbilt looks to bounce back in 2024 campaign

This past season, Vanderbilt finished with a 2-10 record, failing to pick up a win in conference play. It was a step back for the program under head coach Clark Lea, who led the team to a 2-6 mark against SEC foes in 2022.

During an appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show” in March, Lea addressed the team’s shortcomings in 2023.

“There was a point at which from 2022 to 2023 where we’d won four or five games and I think in so many ways, we enjoyed that little stretch,” Lea said. “I think results sometimes can be deceiving and I’ve learned a lot about the process and paying attention to the things that ultimately impact the play on the field.”

“We have to play the game better and ultimately, that’s what my focus has been on this offseason. We’ve made a bunch of changes here to help redirect and grab back the momentum that we had there for a stretch. And I think success is seldom linear.”
