Virginia Tech OL Hunter McLain enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Virginia Tech has lost an offensive lineman to the transfer portal. Redshirt freshman Hunter McLain is in the portal, On3 has learned.
The Virginia native did not appear in a game this season or last season.
McLain signed with Virginia Tech as a three-star prospect in the class of 2022. He was ranked as the No. 113 interior offensive lineman in the country and the No. 37 player from Virginia, according to the On3 Industry rankings.
McLain played offensive tackle and guard at Lord Botetourt High School, prior to signing with Virginia Tech.
He was a four-year starter on the offensive line and also played some on the defensive line. He was originally committed to Richmond, before flipping to the Hokies.
While Virginia Tech is losing Hunter McLain to the transfer portal, they also gained an offensive lineman from the transfer portal recently.
Georgia State transfer offensive lineman Montavious Cunningham committed to Virginia Tech on Thursday.
Cunningham joins the Hokies with two seasons of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound tackle brings size and experience with him to Blacksburg, playing in 743 snaps last season for the Panthers with a blocking grade of 69.0, according to Pro Football Focus.
