Lane Kiffin continues to prove why he is the transfer portal king.

Ole Miss has landed a commitment from Texas A&M defensive line transfer Walter Nolen, the No. 1 athlete in the transfer portal. After taking visits to Oregon and Oxford earlier this month, the former Five-Star Plus+ recruit in the 2022 class has decided on the Rebels.

The defensive lineman played in 12 games this past season for the Aggies, tallying 37 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. It’s another significant pickup for Ole Miss defensive coordinator Pete Golding, who has revamped the defense through the portal these past few weeks. Ole Miss has added EDGEs Tyler Baron and Princely Umanmielen.

Picking up Nolen elevates the Ole Miss defense to compete with the top schools in the SEC, though. Major programs like AlabamaGeorgia and Michigan win games because of the talent on the line of scrimmage. Skill players are crucial, too. But players like Nolen can reshape an entire game, which was a reason why he was a pillar of A&M’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class in 2022.

The addition of the most coveted athlete in the portal only adds to the portal class for Ole Miss, which is one of the top offseason hauls of the season.

The move to Ole Miss also allows the 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman to play closer to home.  A Mississippi native, Nolen spent his junior year of high school in Memphis before playing in Knoxville as a senior.
