Washington quarterback Dermaricus Davis has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal. He entered his name into the portal on Jan. 22.

Davis played high school football at Etiwanda (CA) where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 266 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He finished as a Top-20 QB in the class and a Top-25 player out of the state of California. Davis was the lone quarterback commit for the Huskies in their class that finished No. 48 in On3’s 2024 Industry Team Rankings.

He was the second-highest recruit of their dozen signees. He was behind only ATH Peyton Waters, a four-star and the No. 260 recruit out of Los Angeles. Waters also entered his name in the portal but has not withdrawn it yet.

In December, On3’s Charles Power raved about Davis’ potential.

“Dermanicus Davis has one of the strongest mechanical foundations among 2024 quarterbacks,” Power wrote. “The 6-foot-4.5, 190-pounder is a smooth, natural passer. He has an effortless, tight throwing motion that points to a projectable upside as a passer.

“The throwing motion and ability to manipulate trajectory with a high release point remind us of CJ Stroud at the same stage. Make no mistake, Davis is still developing as a player, but the natural passing skill set and resulting upside make him an intriguing get for Washington.”

Dermanicus Davis’ competition in the QB room

Davis isn’t the only Washington quarterback who has withdrawn his name from the portal. Will Rogers, who initially committed to Washington in December after leaving Mississippi State, but re-entered the portal Jan. 14 after head coach Kalen DeBoer left to take over at Alabama, also is staying at UW.

Rogers is the front-runner be the starter at Washington this season, with Michael Penix Jr. heading to the NFL. He put up incredible numbers under Mike Leach’s watchful eye in his Air Raid offense. From 2020-22, he threw for nearly 10,700 yards and 82 touchdowns before Leach’s sudden death.

Then, when Zach Arnett installed a pro-style system, Rogers’ number dropped to 1,626 yards and 12 touchdowns before he decided to enter the portal. Rogers currently ranks as the No. 18 quarterback to enter the portal so far this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
