USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn made a stop an hour outside of Los Angeles in January to visit 2025 Upland (CA) cornerback Trestin Castro. Castro was offered by USC back in May 2023, but the visit from Lynn was a clear indication of his serious interest in Castro.

Castro ranks as the No. 739 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also tabbed in as the No. 61 cornerback and the No. 57 player in the state of California in the 2025 class.

The meeting with Lynn was the first time Castro talked with USC’s new defensive coordinator in person. This meeting comes after Lincoln Riley made a stop of own earlier this month. Lynn and Castro spent time talking about the future and how Lynn is looking to build the position.

“Coach Riley came a few weeks ago to check in on me and assured me the defensive team would come by. So today meeting with Coach Lynn he said he looks for the right defensive backs and I’m one of them and my tape looks solid. We were talking a little about the off-season preparation and talking about this upcoming track season and how track really helps at my position.

“We talked about the ‘DB’ coach being a great fit and how he be getting them right. [It was] just the beginning of building a solid foundation between him and I. He would like to see me in the spring and I’m looking forward to it as well. I’ve talked with Coach Doug (Belk) too and I think I’ll have a relationship with him like I did with Coach Donte.”

USC official visit

Castro confirmed on Monday he’ll be visiting USC again in the spring. He’ll also visit Washington, Utah and Minnesota. He set a May 30 to June 2 USC official visit

Although early in the process, USC is in a very strong spot with Castro’s recruitment. Castro has long been following USC and his family’s been fans his whole life. He’s enjoyed the Trojans recruiting him given his lifelong support of the program.

“I’m a Cali’ kid so of course USC has always been on the radar,” said Castro. “Growing up with my family being big USC fans, I was born into it and enjoyed watching games with them. The older I got I just fell in love with the sport all around.

“Being invited to games this past season, going on unofficial visits, building relationships with coaches and the recruiting staff everyone just makes you feel so welcomed. I look forward to my college experiences. It’s right around the corner and will be here in no time. What’s not to love about USC.”

What Castro’s looking for

There are a number of things on Castro’s checklist he’ll be looking at as he gets closer to making a school choice.

“I’m making sure the school/program is a great fit for me as they will see if I am a great fit for them. Academics matter as well so what they have to offer there helps me prepare myself for the future after football. The atmosphere around me matters and you can’t tell that with out visiting as well. I have a few ideas but nothing is set in stone yet. I’m looking forward to what’s in store for me. Leading by faith.”
