Cross another defensive line transfer portal target off the list for USC as tackle Jay’viar Suggs left the Trojans off his top four list ahead of a commitment.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound transfer from Grand Valley State took a visit to USC this past weekend and named the Trojans one of his final six schools on Tuesday. But USC will be on the outside looking in when Suggs ultimately make a decision. Thursday, he said Kentucky, LSU, Michigan and Wisconsin are his final four schools.

LSU only entered the picture with an offer for Suggs on Wednesday, but it was enough to help drop Arkansas, Florida State and USC from consideration.

USC has seemingly moved on quickly and is set to host another defensive tackle target in the coming days. But the Trojans came up short in their chase of former Michigan State defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, who committed to Oregon. And USC didn’t seem all that keen to go after former TCU defensive tackle Damonic Williams, who landed at Oklahoma, or former Louisville lineman Jermayne Lole, who committed to Oklahoma but just flipped to Texas.

Riley was direct when he spoke about transfer portal needs earlier this spring.

“An interior defensive lineman is probably the biggest need,” Riley told 247’s Brandon Marcello. “God didn’t make many of those guys. That’s the most immediate need for us.”

USC has addressed a few needs in the spring transfer portal, but not nearly all of them. Wide receivers Kyle Ford and Jay Fair will provide depth there. Nickel Greedy Vance is a key addition in the secondary. But that’s it so far for the Trojans, who lost defensive lineman Isaiah Raikes and offensive lineman Jason Zandamela via the portal this spring.
