See the link below. From the article:

”A Pennsylvania high school football game was suspended on Friday night after one of the quarterbacks collapsed on the field and was rushed to the hospital.

The game was being played between Karns City High School and Redbank Valley High School in Butler County. Karns City quarterback Mason Martin began to stagger during the third quarter, and referee Mike Vasbiner noticed it, according to the Butler Eagle.

"I had to talk to him, and when I asked if he was alright, he told me, ‘No,’" the referee told the outlet. "So, that’s when I knew something was wrong."

Martin then collapsed and was rushed by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. The game was called off and Redbank Valley was determined the winner as they led 35-6 at the time.

Martin’s family told KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh that their son suffered a "significant brain bleed as well as a collapsed lung."”

Awful. 🙁

that's terrible news. unfortunately, it wasn't the only unusual event at a HS football game in PA at the start of the season:

So sorry,
I've been very fortunate with both of my children involved in sports & grandchildren.
Had a horrific experience of my second oldest grandson cracking his skull open and being Life Flighted to Hershey Med Center from Wilkes-Barre.... after several weeks operations were successful and eventually our grandson Job completed his BS, Masters & JD Doctorate in Law at Penn State.
Had a similar situation with our 5 yr old son when I was working at Michael Baker Jr. in Harrisburg. Our child contracted spinal meningitis, thank God the doctors recognized the disease that day and had a team of doctors from Hershey Med to assist.

Children...a very delicate God Send to us that need ever loving caring.

Not sure where I read, maybe Twitter, that the young man is in a medically induced coma for brain swelling to subside.
Anyone hear anything else?

I have not read that. But it would not surprise me, as a medically induced coma is a standard treatment practice for head injuries where there is trauma to the brain.

From the daily mail.

His mother Stacy King Martin, who had been diagnosed with cancer, shared an updated from the family on her social media.

'Mason remains in critical condition with little change over the last 36 hours,' the message on Sunday read. 'The truth is we need a miracle. I'm not saying that to sound grim, but to let you know that we need the strength of your prayers.

'No one believes in this kid more than us, but he needs everyone's strength and prayers. Right now, we have to wait for the swelling to go down to assess the extent of the damage to the brain.'

The statement was signed off with Martin's reported favorite bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11.

The quarterback has the verse tattooed on his right thigh, which reads: 'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'

My area of PA. Very sad. All the area football teams are wearing #2s in his honor on their helmets. Other sports teams are wearing purple and yellow stickers, ribbons to support as well. His father is a teacher and almost every teacher education associations (unions) are donating to this cause. prayers of healing for him and his mom.

I played for a rival high school many years ago. Those kids are tough as nails. Pretty sure after Jim Kelly's old high school, East Brady, closed they merged with Karns City. Tells you the kind of hard-nosed kids are from that area.

Engle was the player from Jersey Shore, not Karns City. Has anyone heard an update on Mason Martin?

it appears it's been a difficult time for him in the hospital:

It's nice to finally see a positive report about Mason Martin -- the QB that was the subject of the OP's post:
