1. I heard defensive staff will be gone. Hutzler could stay as Special Teams coach.

2. I would like yall to investigate who Patented the M-State Logo. Does it belong to Miss State? Who is getting paid from it? Might BLOW your mind.

Hut let would have been a special teams coach hire to begin with. But you can’t keep him on staff after this disaster. It would just cause instability in the locker room. It would be the typical MSU cheapskate thing to do though.

We lost 50 plus off last year's roster. No defensive starters but two or three that did play returned. We only got 6 defensives guys out of the portal. I am feeling better about the offense but hell I hold the HC as much responsible for the crappy defensive play as I do the DC. He hired him and he should have push for more guys out of the portal.

What if he had no choice but to hire him?

So… you read Elitedawgs then come over and pass info like you are an insider…. Cool bro

And yes LT owns part of the banner another reason we need to get as far away from it as possible

Getting as far away as possible from LT - ABSOLUTELY!! BUT, that script State thing is about as lame and vanilla as it can possibly get. We obviously have no mental giants in the AD's office because nobody with half a brain could have thought that script State thing is a good idea (except on the front of a baseball jersey). Trust me, having that script State thing on the front of your car or on a back window decal TOTALLY ensures that nobody will know who you are. I've been there. Count me all-in with the Banner M.

I always heard Richard Williams came up with it.
Williams did come up with it, on a napkin basically. But he does not own it or get anything from it. I got this straight from Williams himself sitting at the bar at The Grill waiting on a table a few years ago. I didn’t recognize him. We started chatting, and I asked him about the banner M logo because I heard it was his creation.

Regarding #2, generally speaking, a logo is trademarked (not patented).

I haven't researched anything, but I would guess that all of the "M State" trademarks used by MSU are owned by MSU. (In other words, the trademarks "belong to" MSU.)

Assuming I am correct and MSU owns all of the trademarks it uses, then nobody is getting paid. Reason: MSU does not have to pay anyone to use the trademarks it owns.

That's not where I heard it. I heard from someone at the stadium. I don't act like an insider either. I just said what I heard. Now.....GFY.
I'm glad you posted it. Hopefully it's true. And for the record, whoever our special teams coach is deserves a raise. Our kicking and return game as good as I can remember. Especially anytime we return one.

The first banner M that looked like a ribbon was something Richard Williams borrowed from a Marshall track logo or something like that. I think the newer one was a Greg Byrne thing

As long as we are getting paid for every Dr Pepper commercial that uses the maroon state jerseys for comedy. . . We should be good. . .

Never a good idea to bring the dumbassedry of elite dawgs here. One does not “patent” a mark/logo. One “trademarks” or “service marks” a mark/logo. One would be researching the beneficial ownership status of the trademark or service mark associated with the god awful M banner.

Worst fanbase in the country

At least in football. It amazes me how we can be so good in baseball, decent in basketball, and totally clueless in football

And definitely clueless about branding

Not meaning to split hairs...

There are two Banner-Ms, right?
  • One is 90s era, and lived on through the Slytanic era. (Pre-2009)
  • The other is from the Greg Byrne/Mullen/Adidas era rebranding. (Post-2009)
Correct. The second is our official logo and looks good. That doesn’t mean it has to be on the helmet or any uniform. But it’s a good idea to keep it as the main athletics logo in general.

Our stupidass fanbase will never understand this

This is true. I actually think it’s been tweaked at least once since the change but I wouldn’t swear to it.

Yes we are the worst fanbase in the country because we have folks that care about baseball, the one sport that doesn’t move ANY needle.

The first Banner M was one was more of a ribbon than banner. I had an artistic student use a overhead projector to create a stencil and paint one in a conference room in Dorman Hall. They tweeked it to make it easier to print, the "folds" in the ribbon made it difficult to reproduce. I remember reading that when they came out with that round of rebranding.

This. I can assure y'all no one has "patented" the logo. The University owns all of the trademark registrations on the logo, and the registrations do not list another interested party. I've never researched whether anyone claims ownership of a copyright on the mark, but that seems unlikely.
