he said in the preseason "I just want Mississippi State fans to feel like they’ve got the right guy at the end of the season.”

So do we have the right guy? I honestly can't answer it regardless of what happens Friday. I do know I can give a definitive answer of "No" by Monday. It's if he keeps Hutzler. That means he's not willing to make the tough decision for the betterment of Mississippi State football.

No. A good coach doesn't go 2-10 and the team not even competitive by the end of his first year. If he keeps Hutzler, he may get fired next year

100% true statement, we have 8 sacks this season the closest team to us is Alabama with 22, there are something like 6 players in the SEC who individually have more sacks than us. Coaches coach up players, I've seen none of that from Putzler and if he is then we are so deep in trouble from a personnel standpoint there is no hope!

No. You can tell pretty quickly if a coach has it or not. Jackie, it was obvious immediately he had it. Croom, lost to Maine, enough said. Mullen, it was obvious immediately he had it. Moorhead, somewhat indeterminate, but he underperformed with a loaded team. Leach, we knew what we had but LSU game enough said. Arnett, obviously in over his head. Lebby, obviously in over his head.

He gets a chance to make changes to fix things because he chose these fools on that defensive side. They stay, he sucks!

I've been massively underwhelmed. I don't have much confidence that he can right the pirate ship, but he should get another year.

Defense needs to be douched, though.

We don’t! Mullen should have been our guy. Bring back Mullen, and you immediately get the fan base re energized.

We play the same 8 conference teams, Arizona state, UNI, USM and alcorn next year. I don’t see but 3 wins at most and I don’t see us winning a conference game. Lebby is staring at 0-16 in conference play his 1st 2 years. He won’t survive that.

The fact he even hired Hutzler in the first place is an indictment against him. Never been a DC before, wouldn’t join the team immediately. But he was one of his best friends so he did it. Then it starts to look like he’s more concerned with employing his friends than getting results. Also I don’t think he can hold him accountable with them being so close. Can he get him in a room alone and say “This defense you’re running sucks, I know the talent isn’t there but the scheme is horrible, the worst I’ve ever seen. If it doesn’t change you’re gone”. I don’t think he can.

Uhhhh no. He somehow managed to underperform my standard, rock-bottom expectations that I have for MSU athletics.

Northern Illinois was dropped, that would have been another MAC nightmare

That was an immediate huge red flag for me. One look at his resume and it was obvious. You just don’t make that hire. Special teams coach, sure. Position coach, ok. But not as your freaking defensive coordinator.

Probably what’s going to happen here is Lebby is not going to work out, a veteran coach will be hired to steady the ship to 5-7/6-6 and there is going to be a few more bad seasons in between.

He better come into the game with his Texas approach. Offense kept the ball away from Texas and our defense picked up a couple of turnovers.

Anything other than this approach and I’m ready to can the man.

if he comes out and try’s to win the game, clock, field position and 3rd downs Friday, we have a chance to keep it close. That’s a lot of ifs

Don't understand how we can fire a 1st year coach for going 5-7 and then turn around and justify keeping a guy who's 2-10 (a given) and 0 for 8 in SEC play. This is not about giving him another year it's about giving us a shittastic year like this while getting paid millions of dollars to do just the opposite. Take me back to the 60's, Bubba.

He picked them I don't have much faith he knows how to run a program or fix the defense. Maybe just another coordinator type. Experience mattters. If he says no to changing defensive staff I say fire him. If he says yes and he gets a better staff and they go 6-6 keep him. If he hires bad again 4-8 type season fire him

You have to take into account that somehow, as hard as it is to believe, our most consistent D lineman was a back up at Purdue. If anybody on this staff gets fired, which I highly doubt, it will be David Turner. How are we in this position on the DL ?? Hutzler ain't gonna be fired. Lebby ran his mouth way too much coming in to this job. Know you got the right guy ? Showtime ? People are gonna want to be a part of it ? I ain't seen nothing remotely impressive from anybody on this staff except the WR room. Everything else gets an F

Not Sure! OMY (1 more year) and l don't care if he keeps Hutzler. This year was like Lebby bailing water while Hutzler keeps drilling holes in the boat. He can fix the problem or go down with the ship.

I think the right guy from the beginning was Odom, an experienced HC. I have yet to get the impression that Lebby has the personality to be completely comfortable as a front man. Also, as learned with Mullen putting together a staff with a HC that had no staff previously, would be a challenge. I think that is plainly obvious with the DC hire.

With that said, Lebby was dealt a terrible hand. Brutal schedule, huge talent disadvantage........I say, ....prior to this Egg Bowl.....I doubt it simply because of the Toledo and Arkansas game. However, If State plays inspired ball this Egg bowl and can keep this game similar to the UGA and UT games, I will still be wait until after the portal closes next spring to give a yes or no..

He will be judged on what he does in recruiting and the portal and if those players signed this off season contribute anything next year. With the schedule next season, does anyone expect him to win more than 5-6 games? The bar is pretty low...he just has to show signs of improvement in 2025.

If he bombs in recruiting and we limp through next season just like this season.....State has to start over.

The only sensible answer is that no, we don’t have the right guy. We’re 2-10 and haven’t been close to winning an SEC game.

The defense is laughable, and we look undisciplined. Mullen had us looking well-coached within a few games.

This may be unpopular and I don’t care, but the most reliable way to get this ship righted is to try to bring Mullen back soon. He’s done it before. Every other hiring option caries more risk.

“Rabble rabble, he can’t recruit in this era”

whatever recruiting he could get done would be a dam n sight better than what is occurring now.

Dude is a good coach, has name recognition, and would get good coaches and players to come here. Of course with leaders like Selmon and Keenum I doubt they view this as an option.

Also, as learned with Mullen putting together a staff with a HC that had no staff previously, would be a challenge. I think that is plainly obvious with the DC hire. The only other name that came out was DJ Durkin. However, he ended up at Auburn. Which makes me question, if he would have taken our DC job. So, did Lebby hire his friend.....or theonly guy that would take the job?

Jon Sumrall …he was the right hire and still is. But probably can’t get him now

Lebby has way more institutional respect nationwide than Arnett ever did. We need to listen to non emotional smart people who cover football and be a little patient. Lebby is the right guy if...

1. We show juice recruiting both lines and a CB in the portal.
2. He fires Hutzler Monday.
3. We keep Coleman.

Do these three things and we will get better. Good news is we should know the answer by New Years and in time for season ticket sales. Bad news is if he doesn't do these things, oof.
