Went over to Iowa to just lurk, they are on suicide watch. If anyone knows a prevention number, go over there and post it.

Warnerov and Young got brutalized.

I too agree with almost all your points and I don’t think Big Mike “faked it,” but I do think that stoppage increased his chances of staying in the match greatly. He’s a tough kid so I can never see him quitting on a match, but I think he would’ve had to tap reserves he usually doesn’t dip into if he would’ve given up 2 there. I am also ignorant to the level of discretion given to officials. Wrestling is just the only I know where there are in-match, game, etc. stoppages when you’re essentially on defense.

I took a long way to get here, but to answer you’re question, no way should a wrestler be able to benefit from a head knock. I know TnT are intense, but zI would talk him out of going tonight (because you know he wants to). They’ll he a bigger fight soon enough…

Good take though Sonny… I appreciate when folks can disagree and not cut each other.
I don’t mean that I thought Kem gamed it. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen it gamed. But let’s say it’s SV and you’re in on a leg but your grip is slipping as opponent torques your fingers, arms, legs, and shoves his foot in your face. I’m not advocating it, and thankfully I’ve never seen what would appear to be a fake, but why not scream in agony before the grip breaks?

I don't want to start something but didn't Austin DeSanto (or at least accused of a) 'tap-out' when wrestling RBY who was working towards back points..? If I get a vote, it sure seemed like it. If I was proficient at regathering the scene I'd collect and paste it.
For the record, Michael Kemmerer is No Austin DeSanto.

okay so I'm jumping into the shower watching replays of Mat X from 11:00AM BTN+ and the song 'Eye of the Tiger' is playing pre-match. Why do I get the picture that this is a tribute to Nicky Pushups, or at least his walk-out song..?

Bartlett does nothing for me. I don’t ever see him being a champ

Those who know better than I, please weigh in (pun somewhat intended), but it is my opinion that Beau has the length of a 133 pounder, the weight of a 141 pounder and lacks both size and length to make the things happen that we thought we’d see. Next year, assuming he is a 141, will be a much different dynamic and more to his advantage.

I don’t know any better but I certainly have an opinion!

First of all, Beau didn’t have to wrestle last year at 149, but he did because it was a free year and he’s a competitor. And he was our best option at 149.

He could have redshirted this year, but again, the team needed a 49 pounder, and he chose not to redshirt.

If he didn’t wrestle last or this year, 149 would probably be in disarray.

It must be frustrating for him to not be able to do the things he thinks he should be able to do because he’s giving up size. I think he may have overcompensated by becoming highly defensive and shooting almost exclusively for close wins, but easy for me to say. It looks easy from my couch.

Will he be the stud we’ve expected next year at 141? I’m still betting on yes. Next year, he’ll prove me right or wrong. But the kid does deserve some amount of credit for stepping in pretty solidly at 149, at a weight where he knows he’s outsized. Even Cael Sanderson took a redshirt before rolling off 159 straight!

thanks all ... just got home, and quickly buzzed through the thread to see how PSU wrestlers did in Session 1. The loss by Hildebrandt is a surprise. He has a tough matchup in his 1st consolations match; hope he can battle back. RBY and Nick Lee did as expected. And while it's disappointing, I didn't expect Beau to get past Gomez at 149. Berge upsetting Kaleb Young is something I thought was quite possible. We've see so little of Brady this season, and even less at 157, so it was tough to know how he'd perform. That said, I thought that if he got to his offense, he could beat Young. He's got a tough semifinal match against Will Lewan tonight. Edsell losing to Marinelli is unfortunate, but but shouldn't have surprised anyone. CStar and AB rolled, and Dean and Kerk did very well.

Session 2 matchups:

125:
Consolation R2, #2 Drew Hildebrandt vs. #8 Patrick McKee (Minny)

133:
Semifinal: #1 RBY vs. #5 Dylan Ragusin (Mich)

141:
Semifinal: #1 Nick Lee vs. #5 Jakob Bergeland (Minny)

149:
Consolation R2: #7 Beau Bartlett vs. #8 Christian Kanzler (Illini)

157:
Semifinal: #10 Brady Berge vs. #3 Will Lewan (Mich)

165:
Consolation R2: #10 Creighton Edsell vs. #9 Cael Carlson (Minny)

174:
Semifinal: #1 CStar vs. #4 Michael Kemerer (Iowa)

184:
Semifinal: #1 AB vs. #4 Taylor Venz (Nebraska)

197:
Semifinal: #2 Max Dean vs. #3 Cameron Caffey (MSU)

285:
Semifinal: #3 Kerk vs. #2 Tony Cassioppi (Iowa)

Team Score after Session 1:
1. Michigan - 68.5
2. PSU - 67.5
3. Iowa - 55

I feel like an Iowa apologist, but in DeSanto’s defense (words rarely used), RBY isn’t very friendly to DeSanto’s foot or ankle or knee. At last year’s match, I too thought DeSanto was playing it up because he didn’t want to get turned, but the replay from last year and then again this year showed that RBY has found a very uncomfortable approach to DeSanto’s shots, and I guess it’s the ref’s job to call it an illegal move or potentially dangerous, neither of which have been done. But if DeSanto was using the tactic to save himself from being turned, why’d he take the medical forfeit instead of going back to wrestle like Kem?

HR - where they eat their own
Okay so I was just over there on HR visiting and just as I expected, there are the doomsday sayers, the eternal optimists, the HOMERS, the Idiots and hopefully parents of top HS wrestlers that say to themselves, 'With this fanbase, My kids never gonna wrestle for Iowa!'. The %'s may not match, but they are probably a lot like this board.
I've thought for along time now that Tom & Terry need separate jobs; like one could be a traffic cop and one could do your taxes. Seriously, I've always found it hard to imagine that you have two guys so closely related and so intense that with the limited number of prospective coaches that you wouldn't want (as an administration) to garner some guys with differing skillsets. Techniques, personal/ inter-relational skills, recruiting, administration, I dunno. But they are like clones.
In my opinion, there are some decent posters over on HR and I do believe that if one ran into them in a social setting that a decent wrestling discourse could occur. Not likely, but Could... Just sayin.
As an outsider I'm thankful we've got a great coaching staff, an administration that appears to support them and the team, a great fanbase, and (I forget the white haired lady that appears to be a team proctor but I bet her position is a lot more important than she gets credit for) and the efforts of all of these guys.
And while I'm at it, I believe Beau Bartlett spends more time on the podium in the next three years than many of us believe.
This is a great time of the year!

Hey, no one said we were going to have to give actual answers to questions like this...

Oh these are rhetorical questions?!? 😀
I better change topics.
SQUIRREL!
Happiness is the wife asking when wrestling comes back on and you can reply 'like 10 more hours on two days in different time slots on different channels' and she says 'Okay!'.

All fair points.

What if two guys shoot at the same time, knock heads, and one guy gets it worse than the other? The rules don’t allow the other wrestler to jump on him and get the pin.

I should read the rule. I don’t know to what extent the referee has discretion. You’re right. A takedown for Smith seemed fair, even taking into account Kem’s injury. Another fair point is that if you wrestle with an injury, you accept the risk that the injury could cause you pain and harm your chances in the match.

I was simply going on what I’ve always seen. Injury occurs, referee calls injury time, other guy gets choice. That said, I can recall other times where the injury is so fluid within the match that the wrestling is not stopped until the action completes, which could include the takedown or other.

In the end, I agree with you more than I originally did, but I also didn’t disagree with the ref’s call. It just seems like how they call it. It also seems like it can be gamed.

Interested to see if Kem wrestled tonight. Seems wiser to rest his shoulder, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Wow you told me to call the NCAA
