Barnett has been in the league for seven years now. Seven! They wouldn’t be giving up on him as much as admitting he just hasn’t panned out despite seven seasons of opportunity.I dont think they'll give up on Derek Barnett, unless someone makes them an offer they cant refuse, like a 2nd rd.
my point, which I probably didnt make very well is, his salary is already in the cap figures so if its a choice between keepingBarnett has been in the league for seven years now. Seven! Patrick Johnson, Janarius Robinson and him, I am keeping Barnett
wow, based on those numbers, I'd say he'd have a good chance on sticking. If you have to pay him any how (at least against the cap) might as well play him ,heck he might even make a playI didn't realize his cap hit was so high. For 2023, his cap hit is $3,115,823, and the dead cap hit is $10,692,000. Interestingly, he's also on the books for 2024, with a cap hit of $7,215,000 and a dead cap hit of the same amount (all per Spotrac.com).
It's a sunk cost either way. Howie's objective has to be having THE BEST 53-man roster in 2023. If Barnett isn't one of those players, then his cost is irrelevant. They'll incur it regardless and may as well try to maximize their on-field product.I didn't realize his cap hit was so high. For 2023, his cap hit is $3,115,823, and the dead cap hit is $10,692,000. Suppose he gets 11 sacks n 12 the next yr would that change thingsHe’s good for 1 or 2 a season, after that
If … yeah but after 7 years. I’m not expecting anything close to 23 sacks from himSuppose he gets 11 sacks n 12 the next yr would that change things
No one excepted 17 from HassonReddick either we will seeIf … yeah but after 7 years. I’m not expecting anything close to 23 sacks from him
Reddick had like 15 the season before he came to Philly! 17 wasn’t out of nowhere. No one excepted 17 from HassonReddick either we will see

Ok. That’s still a solid sack production track record on worse defenses. 16 wasn’t out of the blue.Close
2023: he had 16 for the Eagles
2022: he had 11 for Carolina
2021: he had 12.5 for Arizona
