5 11...I think.....but was closer than that really. PSU lost challenge on final play when it appeared they barely touched a spike that went out. Many points were extended and a scramble. OSU just finished them better in the second half of the set. PSU definitely showed they will be a team that will play tough.

Earlier on the last point, PSU's staff exploded out of their chairs. I'm pretty sure they felt that tOSU committed a carry or double hit as they dug out a shot by PSU. I was pretty sure it was a carry. I can't recall if you can challenge a non-call on a carry.

PSU did not make things easy for themselves. They made too many unforced errors in the 1st two sets, and had trouble with the MB when they only got a single blocker against quick serves to the MB. Kudos for them for digging deep and winning the 3rd & the 4th set. They started out the 5th set with a couple of nice points, but then kind of reverted to how they played in the 1st two sets.

Kash Williams did a 6-spot rotation at least once, and had an ace on her 1st serve (and served it long on her 2nd one, after a tOSU timeout.)

PSU went toe to toe with #6 Ohio State. They're an enigmatic team in that even in matches where they are more talented and play really well, they often have periods where they are in a funk. Tonight was the opposite, in that they were probably not as talented as tOSU, and looked totally outclassed in the 1st two sets, and then elevated their game and won two sets.

Ladies lose an exciting fifth set. The effort was awesome, however. No need to hang their heads.
Love the effort! Didn't let up, improved throughout the game on the road at No. 6. Coach Katie looks to be doing a solid job so far this season.

I don’t know if replay is similar to football and the evidence to overturn a call has to be “indisputable,” but it really didn’t look like that last shot hit either of the Penn State defenders.

Watched the match today (thanks dvr).

First 2 sets were as poor as they could possibly play. At times, serve receive had the setter sprinting pin to pin to end line. Cannot run an offense like that.

Compounding (and maybe due to the poor serve receive), PSU hitters couldn't find the court.

I'm not sure if PSU played better or OSU lost their edge in sets 3 and 4, but the ladies gutted out two tough sets. Markley is a pleasant surprise at OH. She played very well.

Set 5 was a battle, but when Markley hit the antenna with a down ball (certainly not the way they drew it up), PSU's night was pretty finished.

OSU is a solid team. No shame in losing the match, but sets 1 and 2 performance was not good.

Anxious to see how the ladies play against the Illini on Sunday.

Team defense and serve receive needs help and I don't know if the players to help are on the current roster. The next two recruiting cycles are going to tell us a lot about what direction this program is headed in.

The “bad team” just took the second set from Iowa 25-22. PSU is ranked #14, so I guess there are a lot of really bad teams in your expert opinion.

That was a gutsy win against Maryland on the road. After a tough injury the team rallied and hung tough. I’ve been impressed with their tenacity and ability to put teams away late in the match. I think Katie has done a nice job coaching these girls up. They are not the most talented group but they play hard and don’t give up.

We look awful tonight. Injuries? Down 2-0 to 9-11 Illinois. We beat them at home.

the injury to Trammell is likely to hurt them for the rest of the season. The Illini had a very high hitting percentage in the 1st two sets, with a lot of them coming from their MB. Trammell is PSU's leading MB, and played a key role in their blocks this season.

PSU is playing much better in the 3rd set, so perhaps they can rally. The Illini are not ranked, while PSU is at #11 in the latest AVCA Volleyball Poll, so it's somewhat surprising to see the Illini win the 1st two sets.
