That just means we are recruiting the right guys…
Who would USC be recruiting? I dont think we were head to head with them for anyone, and also not sure if we were head to head with Oklahoma when Riley was there. Where is this coming from?.

You are looking at it wrong. I doubt that any big time coach says “who is team X recruiting”, and goes out to recruit their targets. Coaches have their own targets based upon evaluation. Maybe somebody on USCs staff likes Roy, and they think their brand has enough draw. Did they get a decommit or a transfer portal that they are compensating for. When coaches change, there is an opportunity to set new priorities and new targets.

I understand that, but the lead in was USC poking at our guys. It was suggesting they were after our players. If we are talking about Roye, he would be one of our 3* players. They should be able to get that type of player locally just by breathing. if someone said Riley wanted Allar, that would make sense.

It's possible that Roye is the only one that feels "blessed" to have received an offer this late in the process?

Don’t you think it’s possible for coaches to like a 3 star more than some 4 or even 5 star players. I’m no talent evaluator, but I’ve seen 3 star recruits with real interest from Bama and all the big boys. Why does this have to be a mystery or conspiracy?

Was looking over the 2022 team rankings on 247 and it seems pretty abnormal for so many of the top programs listed to have commit numbers in the teens, as opposed to in the twenty's. Lots of possible reasons including teams bringing back 6th year players with the COVID year available, as well as teams going after more Portal players to fill position gaps more so than what Franklin might have panned.

The FOS scholarship matrix now has PSU coming out even if all of the 25 sign, and there will very likely be at least a little more attrition between now and the end of Spring practice, although with the Portal and the transfers already announced it seems that those decisions are now happening earlier so players can find a team to transfer to and enroll at in January.

Looking over the scholarship matrix about the only name that seems there that from what has happened the last couple years almost looks out of place is Hawkins at DT. I can't remember him getting into a game for more than a snap or two and given that he was in the 2018 class and has been at PSU for 4 seasons I find it hard to believe that he will return for 2022.

The position that seems to need another talented player seems to be LB, not that any top talent at any position wouldn't be welcomed. I sure would not be taken aback if Ellis Brooks utilized his COVID year and came back to shore up the middle of the defense, but he had a very good year and likely wants to give the NFL a try. On the other hand, Smith looked pretty pedestrian at OLB this season for a player some thought was a first or 2nd round NFL pick coming into the season, so will he still declare for the NFL draft? Walker at OT may be in the same position.

Wonder who else is considering declaring for the draft that may open a spot in the 2022 class for a late signing day surprise?

Surprised to learn several commits took visits - including Roye to USC.
