Croatia scores again just before the end of the 1st half. (Well, just before the end of regulation. 5 minutes of stoppage time have since been added.) 2-1, Croatia over Canada

Turnaround is right. Down 0-1 Croatia set up a glorious sequence that put the ball in the net but offsides. They seemed very dispirited and out of sorts for a spell.

yeah, the AR was REALLY slow in raising the flag on the offsides. I thought the call was correct, but it could have been made long before the player ever took the shot.
It seems that side judges have been slow on offsides calls throughout the tournament
Maybe there’s a let-them-play-cuz-VAR mentality rearing its head, dunno. It was a clear offsides, but only by a step. Watching, I immediately thought it might have been offsides but I wasn’t at all sure until the replay.

I concur. FIFA must have given them some type of instructions that haven't been shared to the public with regards to holding the flag.
5-7 years ago, they changed the rules on offsides so that the flag wasn't raised until the player in the offside position actually touched the ball. That's still the rule (and fans, players, and coaches still scream their displeasure at the ARs for not raising the flag sooner), though there have been some small changes to it.
In this year's WC, it seems as though they're holding the flag to see if the other team can take the ball from the player that is offsides, or something like that. A bunch of refs I know have been speculating about the change, but none of them know the actual guidance that FIFA gave before the start of the WC.
In stoppage time, a mistake by a Canadian defender allows a 2 on none break for Croatia, and they capitalize, to make it 4-1
said as a joke. But on a more serious level, they have to be stunned. They looked very good during WC qualifying, and the hopes and expectations were high for them. And yet, they won't even advance out of the qualifying rounds. There's a lot of talent on the Canadian team.
this shot by Spain was tipped by the keeper, then hit the bottom of the crossbar, but spun out of bounds.
Especially this WC. The amount of upsets already have been crazy
Germany looked to take the lead, but VAR ruled (correctly IMHO) that Rudiger was offsides on the free kick
Does an arm constitute offsides or is it the torso? The Spanish player had his arm extended beyond Rudiger when the kick occurred.
