I wish I could care more, I really do but not singing the national anthem leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's the national team, you choose to play for it. I honestly could care less about protests during club teams, its your choice I suppose, I think it does more harm than good but fine. But the national team, you are playing for your country. It's trash not to sing. If you don't like your country, don't play for the national team.

Damn, the USA dominates the early going, but doesn't score, and then the Netherlands scores on their 1st legitimate chance in the 18 minute mark. smh

Morgan scores for the USA, but she's offsides (easy call). Still 1-1 in the 68th minute.

Most of these scores I pretty much agree with, except for Lavelle. While she was more of a factor than DeMelo (who she replaced after halftime), she had @ 5 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, before she settled down.

Its like rooting for OSU. You can see and appreciate that they have the most talented squad (and several of the players on the team are probably great kids) - but they are also so incredibly easy to NOT root for as a program.
Yes. That's where I'm at here. Torn. I want the USA to win but it's difficult to root for this team.

Am i the only one to spot #10 offside for Netherlands?

she may have been in an offside position -- it was close, and you can't tell for sure on the camera angle that was shown on the broadcast. However, being in an offside position does not make one offside. She would have had to either play the ball on the shot, or have interfered with either the view of the shot by the GK or the attempt to save the ball by the GK, to have been called offside.

In the 90' in 90" highlights, there is a view of the goal that does seem to show that 10 was in an offside position, but the analyst correctly indicates that she wasn't involved in the the play so not offside.

Could team USA be wearing uglier uniforms?
Why can't soccer refs/officials control the game clock on the scoreboard? How much extra time that exists in any game is a mystery. It doesn't seem to me it would be very difficult to make the scoreboard clock official.
Can you imagine a football game or a basketball game or hockey game when you have no idea how much time is left on the clock at the end of the game and the game just "ends."

The culture on the team may improve greatly once they get rid of Rapinoe once and for all, which may then make the USWNT much easier to cheer for.

We may see a similar effect with NBA fandom once LeBron finally retires. The NBA's viewership fell sharply after Michael Jordan's retirement, but we may see the opposite effect once the league finally rids itself of LeBron.

Agree on both counts. I haven't watched any of the Women's World Cup. The U.S. team just makes it very hard to root for them. I agree with earlier statements if you don't want to stand and/or sing the national anthem when playing for the national team then simply decline and not play. Yes when Rapinoe finally leaves I think you will see ratings jump back up some not all the way. Going to take awhile for many to buy back into the USWNT. Same goes for LeBron.

They really don't understand the dynamic. They lament making less than the men, don't equate the major disparity in viewership to dollars, then proceed to alienate part of that limited viewership.

In 2015, my daughter was heavily vested. She was part of a girl's Developmental Academy team tied to US Soccer. Quite an accomplishment for her that involved hour drives each way to practice 4 nights a week and tournaments all over the country. Had all the US soccer gear and traveled to Canada to watch the World Cup live.

Fast forward to 2023 and the US soccer stuff has gone to Goodwill and she isn't even watching the games.

And before anyone says she is intolerant of the causes they are espousing, that is not it at all.....it's a time and place thing. Sometimes you want sports just to be about sports.

Really? My daughter told me people were making an issue because the players weren't singing. I can't understand how anyone could truly care, unless they wanted to make an issue about it.

Since when is "not singing" a protest? Do all the NFL players sing? Do all the fans sing? Or is it just women are supposed to sing?

I think people making an issue over this are anti-USWNT to start with and are making up an issue to support their position.

I am not anti USWNT. I have watched them many times and went to see them in person several times.
I am sure you think I am a righty, but I am not.

I said in my post I personally don't care when its for a club team, but for the national team, I feel differently.
Just my personal feelings.
