I am not anti USWNT. I have watched them many times and went to see them in person several times.
I am sure you think I am a righty, but I am not.

I said in my post I personally don't care when its for a club team, but for the national team, I feel differently.
Just my personal feelings.
Mine too. Does not singing mean anything in the whole scheme of things? No, but why not sing anyway? It’s the national team, represent as best you can.

Yes. That's where I'm at here. Torn. I want the USA to win but it's difficult to root for this team.
I can’t say I follow this group like I do my favorite sports teams (and haven’t seen a game because I can’t get Fox right now). What makes them so difficult to root for?

Really? My daughter told me people were making an issue because the players weren't singing. I can't understand how anyone could truly care, unless they wanted to make an issue about it.

Since when is "not singing" a protest? Do all the NFL players sing? Do all the fans sing? Or is it just women are supposed to sing?

I think people making an issue over this are anti-USWNT to start with and are making up an issue to support their position.
Well because forced patriotism defines freedumb to some folks. They are about to kick off a WC game and they need to be only thinking about how triggered anyone can get by the way they hold their hands or if they sing. Not that they may be anxious or pumped to play in the WC or that they just don't like or want to sing...nahh, they hate their country. I have seen a ton of sporting events, hell I was just at a pro baseball game and both of the teams weren't singing....so they hate America and America's past time. I cannot believe how easily some folks are manipulated into being offended or triggered anymore. It's basically people being told to be offended so they are.....that's freedumb.

I heard #25 Colombia just beat #2 Germany

tis true. A great match.

For the World Cup, there are two threads -- one for the USA team (this thread) and one for all other teams and general issues. The second one is titled, 2023 Women's World Cup - General Discussion & Non-USA teams thread.

The Columbia - Germany match was discussed a bit in that thread:

Please use this thread for all discussions about the USA team at the 2023 Women's World Cup. This should include pre-World Cup discussions, game threads for USA matches, etc.

Discussion for a lot of the lead-up to the World Cup for the USWNT took place in the USWNT Thread, which can be accessed at:

Did I read it correct that these young ladies are disrespecting the USA National Anthem?

Some chose not to sing and some folks tried to spin that into a controversy because they know how to trigger people over nothing.
IMO, some of the "spin" comes from the team's actions in the past. Kneeling during the anthem didn't go over real well. You'd think people who represent the country would represent the country. But, i guess their interpretation of how to deal with what to do during the anthem is how they represent the country, not how the vast majority of americans would do it

Funny how respect for the country you are representing is now “triggered.”

If they don’t appreciate the opportunity to represent their county, I am sure other countries would take them.

I guess they are “victims”.

We got lucky. Portugal was the better team tonight. I don't have any confidence that this team will get back to the Final.

Disorganized tripe. Now I have to somehow squash the disgust and grab a nap before work.
