When you recruit the guys they recruit (and get to portal there), you should be projected in the top 25. Their local recruits are their bottom players. Out of the 9 from the portal, 4 were at least a 96 ranking and top 100 recruits out of HS. The others were guys who have developed and got tiem at mid majors. Experienced mid majors are always good teams
Point is, no one knows how they’re going to play together or how their coach is going to do….they’re being ranked based on their name. And one of their local recruits may end up being one of the best players on their team in a couple of years.

They are being ranked on their talent, not their name. They could certainly have an underwhelming season, but they also have a very high ceiling with this talent.

This is not Coach Cal talent. And even when they had Coach Cal talent, they were often overrated based on the name.

I saw on discord group that Eli Rice from Nebraska isn't practicing and the freshman Goodman is still not allowed to have contact in practice. We need those 2 to get healthy fast.

Good first half, especially at the defensive end. Binghamton isn't a great test, but getting 10 steals, forcing 14 turnovers, and only sending them to the line 5 times are all great. The one bad thing at that end was the offensive rebounds, but it'll likely be a trend again this season while we play this style. Especially with how much time we had Konan playing in the backcourt on the press (and since he's using it on his jersey, I'll go with "Konan" this season and save a lot of typing).

Offensively, good job attacking and getting to the line again and again. Tough to lose if you shoot 25 FTs in a half. Ace is so good offensively...scoring when we need it, but primarily trying to get everyone else involved.

I was surprised to see Larry Scirotto tonight...then I did some digging, and sounds like he's made a lot of news in Pittsburgh the past few weeks, and is back at it again this season.

Solid game...good night at both ends, creating a ton of turnovers and protected the ball ourselves. A little better test coming against UMBC on Friday, but we'll learn more about what we have next Friday in Baltimore.

One thing I forgot to mention...we really struggled last season to get Ace some rest without Clary, as we didn't have anyone else that was really capable of playing the 1. Carter looked like he can definitely fill that role this season, and Ace won't be forced to go 36+ minutes every night.

Interesting to see us go 9 deep before we even hit the first media TO…wonder if this is more to do with the opponent, or if it will be a trend as we face stiffer competition.

Defense looks good except a little lax on defending the three point shot.

Another really good effort. UMBC isn’t great, but they are better than we made them look tonight. Defense was phenomenal, and led to so many easy points in transition.

10 dunks, 30 layups, 52 points in the paint, got to the line 29 times…tough to not blow someone out with those numbers.

Konan is really fun to watch. It’s like he’s reinvented himself…they mentioned Blake Griffin, and it’s like someone told him to just play like him and try to dunk everything (a couple ill-advised, but love the aggression).

UMBC obviously had a letdown after their big game vs Penn state York Campus on Monday.

I'll reserve judgement on Konan until I see him against stronger opponents but I'll admit that he looked like more of an offensive threat than I imagined. He didn't light it up at Northern Illinois last year.

Don’t get me started on the number of early season games against non-D1 competition.

At the moment, the D1 team is 121-0 in those games. Kudos to Mississippi Valley State for making me laugh at least last night, as they knocked off the Mississippi University for Women (and yes, I’m serious).

I don't follow basketball transfer portal closely, but I had no idea Carey Booth only did one year with Shrews at Notre Dame and transferred to Illinois this year.

Yep. Welcome to college basketball in 2024. Tonight, I was trying to think if there was anyone left on the team that played for or was recruited by Ferry…then realized that we don’t even have anyone left that played for, or was recruited by Micah.
