At the risk of sounding like an ***, (wouldn't be the first time and no that is not my intent) that was a fantastic hockey game. Both defenses and special teams (penalty kill) came to play. Both defenses did not surrender the middle. That was like watching a championship game. I haven't seen my Gophers get outshot 12 to 28? We were F#$%$%^ lucky to win that one. That redirect shot was the textbook definition of puck luck.

Glad we don't play you guys soon. Not looking forward to the series at Pegula.

Cheers!

Wasn’t able to see much of the series vs the Gophers, but the defense was not sharp against St Lawrence earlier. The goalie was sharp in that series. But there were some bad giveaways, including one bad pass from behind the net straight to the stick of our foe. How it didn’t draw netting I have no idea.

Balance would be nice. Not a lot of that at Pegula through the years. Outside of Peyton Jones and some hot Souliere, goaltending has been average at best.

Most of my opinion was based on Saturdays game. I'd never watched a Gophers game where the team only got off 12 shots. Not for one period. The whole game! The middle was shut down. IIRC 10 or 11 were very odd angle shots. I knew that either team would either win in a shootout or a garbage goal/ lucky fluke type goal. I'd say it was the best defensive effort I'd seen in some time. That's just me though.

Agree on Souliere. He was the reason we won.

1-1 thru 1.

Wisky goal about three minutes in. Redirect, not much Sergeev could do. Badgers carried the pace of play for much or period. Lions PK remained strong.

Lions started to pick up the pace, got a PP late in the period and made the Badgers pay with a one timer from Fink from the right circle.

Lions received another PP even later in the first but didn’t cash in — yet. Still 1:22 with a man advantage to start the second. Let’s hope momentum carries us to the lead.

Down 3-1 entering third. PSU couldn’t cash in momentum and gradually Wisky took control later in second.

Early goal for the Lions under review. Goal stands, Lions down 3-2 18:17 to go.

and just like that, a turnover allows the Lions to tie it up. 3-3, 13:36 to go

Some back and forth hockey now, and the Lions don’t cash in but the Badgers do. 4-3 8:35 to go.

dastardly Badger trips a Lion. PP needs to capitalize. 6:36 to go.

Lions pull goalie, now get a PP with a minute to go down 4-3.

Ten seconds into PP and it’s all tied up! 4-4 50 seconds to go

Free hockey at Pegula. OT coming up.

some back and forth during 3 on 3 and Badgers win 5-4.

How the f*ck can you lose to an unranked team at home? It’s always like this with Gadowsky teams.

Three minutes in, down 2-0. First goal was weakest I’ve seen Sergeev allow.

At 0-3 in conference, I think this is a vital game for confidence and momentum.

not getting better.
Grannan replaced Sergeev, but has allowed two more, one on a three on one. 4-0 bad guys

Two PP and nothing to show at end of first. Steep hill to climb from here on out.

comeback off to good start, Lions pot their first 48 seconds in. 4-1

4-2, Lions put the biscuit in the basket and the barn has come alive.

Lions still have work to do, and will start on the PK in the third, but it’s a ballgame at least. The boys in blue have kept the pressure on.

and with 11:34 to go, it’s a one goal game!

five minute major on DiMarsico and the Badgers get one quickly. 5-3 with 8 minutes to go and 4:37 on the PP still to go.

6-3, Grannan with several good saves but cannot get the puck out with tired d in front. Still :30 left in PP

6-3 final

Fellas, I didn’t take the night off. But this team is confounding. They finally get out to a quick start and early goal, only to allow an avalanche of Michiganistan goals. Down 4-1 midway thru one after a positive start was disheartening.

Now that said, this team, while young, is not intimidated by a deficit. Coming all the way back from 4-1 and 5-2 to tie only to lose 6-5 was something to build on.

I haven’t heard anything about Sergeev. He didn’t dress tonight and Grannan got the nod in goal. Anybody hear anything? Noah wasn’t beaten like a rented mule, and the goals allowed weren’t bad, mostly redirects or grade A chances. He did make some nice saves.

The kids are playing hard. If they can stop digging such deep holes, they may actually be tough to beat.
