and to think!!!!! he was NOT even good enough to be INVITED to the heisman dinner !!!!!!- at notre dame, they would PUSHED him into the award !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I coached high school ball here in NY and one of my best friends in the business was Dave Gettleman (who coached at Spackenkill and then Kingston) before working his way up the ladder in the NFL. While his career as NYG GM didn't end well, he was 100% correct on Barkley, declaring his "hand was touched by God."

I still think Milton Williams might be >than Baun but they are close SB showed to me, how much pressure he can take off the D but holding the ball or scoring points.
The Patriots, Commies or another team will throw crazy money at Williams. Look at the young Dallas DT who just got $20 million a year. That’s now the floor with Williams.

Sadly, I think Roseman knew long ago that Philly would be priced out of both Dlinemen.

I think the great inside players are harder to find. Otoh we let Hargrove ( sp) walk and that worked out ok. I think as soon as Carter is eligible for an extension they should work that out ( I think it’s after yr 3).
I remember some thinking Milton Willians was a bust

1st round draft picks, per the Rookie Scale Extension, can sign an extension between the end of their 3rd season and the day before the 4th season begins.

Elite players are looking for a huge increase in their 2nd contract. In that context, there is some advantage (financially) for the team in not signing them to an extension after the 3rd season, and picking up the 5th year option. The team is trying to balance that financial advantage, and the team's overall position regarding the cap, with keeping their elite players content -- not always an easy balancing act.

The Eagles have back to back high first round picks at DT in Carter and Davis. They have to let those guys shine now. It’s why they made the picks.

Williams is a great story, but I do believe he benefitted playing next to Carter, who commanded constant double teams. The team signing him may find that he’s less productive if depended upon to carry the load on his own.

Carter is a generational talent. That’s obvious. Williams is a good player, but nowhere near as productive without Carter’s shadow.
