Howie is kicking the tires on guys who were drafted high due to being athletic. After Baun, why not?

I’m glad they extended Jurgens…he’s another draft and transition success story for the franchise. It’s amazing he’s already making $3M more than Kelce (a sure-fire Hall of Famer) made in his highest grossing year.
He's 30, likely past his prime, had some injury issues, and will be asking for a big contract. I'll miss him, but won't be that disappointed if/when he is traded.
It will be interesting. I’m in the “trade down” school. The Eagles have cap sensitivities. Making 2 second round picks may help there, especially if guys are evenly graded from say 5 to 50 or 60.
Howie can worry about all the 2026 picks next year. Right now that’s a good situation to have.
The one exception is if a DT, Edge or CB they really like falls. But unlike last year, there won’t be enough QBs taken in round 1 for that to happen.
The reason I want to stay in the first round is 5 yrs worth of control. Maybe 6 considering a tag yr depending on position
I’d love this scenario, but Nolan feels less and less likely to be there at 32. In fact, many expect him to go top 15.
Jeff McLane (Philadelphia Inquirer main Birds beat writer) and 3 other Inquirer sports writers that cover the Birds, had their Draft Meter published in today's edition. McLane writes this in the article:
"I don’t feel confident about any one player like I have in the last four drafts when I mocked Quinyon Mitchell, Jalen Carter/Nolan Smith, Jordan Davis and DeVonta Smith to the Eagles in the first round (pats self on back). Picking last will do that, although I think it’s more likely Howie Roseman trades up or back than he sticks at 32. Historically, he’s moved up more than back, which is why I have Nolen as the most likely choice. I think there’s a good chance he’s not within range — say, around No. 26 or 27 — but I know the Eagles have done a lot of work on him and love him. There are some character concerns because Nolen’s transferred a lot — in high school and college — and missed practices. But he has the athletic upside the Eagles crave in their linemen."
McLane gives Nolan a 8.5 on his draft meter, which is the highest he gives to any of the players mentioned in the article. FWIW, the average score of the 4 scribes in the draft meter for Nolan is 8.3 (in large part because EJ Smith game him a 7, while the other three scores were 8.5, 9, and 9).

He gives a good explanation for each of his scores, but I can't just copy all of that. It's a combination of whether he thinks the named player will be there at 32, whether he thinks they'll be available in the 2nd round, whether he thinks Howie will use a 1st round at that position, etc.
So much uncertainty ... should be entertaining
These guys get paid to speculate, but all those opinions may not be worth the paper they’re printed on. It’s all so variable and DTs with Nolen’s physical traits are greatly coveted. Teams will be looking for the next Jalen Carter.

I think I read that the Eagles now have 4 first round picks from the 2022 draft. Jordan Davis at 13, Kenyon Green at 15, Jahan Dotson at 16, and Lewis Cine at 32.
No way are they picking up more than one of those options and even Davis is a question mark.
Davis's 5th-year option will guarantee him $12.9 M in 2026
Dotson's 5th-year option would have guaranteed him $16.8 M in 2026
Green's 5th-year option will guarantee him $16.7 M in 2026
Cine was released by the Vikings (the team that drafted him in the 1st round) prior to the start of the 2024 season. By being released before the 2024 season, he's ineligible for a 5th-year option. (He's the only player drafted in the 1st round of the 2022 draft that is ineligible for a 5th-year option.)
I didn't expect the Birds to pick up Dotson's option, and I don't expect them to pick up Green's. I go back-and-forth on whether or not it's in their best interests to pick up Davis's 5th-year option.
