'25 Junior Pan-Am Games, 8/20-22

the Junior Pan American Games are being held in Asuncion, Paraguay, on August 20-22. The USA is sending a Greco-Roman team, a women's FS team, and a men's FS team.

The qualifying event (for the wrestling team) for the Junior Pan American Championships was the '25 Pan Am U23 Championships, held in Queretaro, Mexico on April 3-6.

PSUers in the competition are:

74 Kg: Mitchell Mesenbrink
86 Kg: Rocco Welsh

In addition, PSU recruit Bo Bassett is on the USA team, at 65 Kg.

The qualification rounds and finals of each discipline take place on one day. Greco-Roman will be on Wed., August 20, WFS will be on Thurs., August 21, and MFS will be on Fri., August 22.

Bassett is a PSU recruit? I guess in the sense that he is being recruited, but...

The Junior Pan American games have been going on since Aug 9th. The wrestling (Lucha) portion starts tomorrow with Lucha Grecorromana Masculino. At first the feed for me was spinny circle. Perhaps it was a Windows update - it has been better but not perfect since then. Brazil is crushing it with the strategy of sending lots of swimmers. The USA apparently has sent no swimmers but does have some divers. The USA rhythmic gymnastics team was strong. No 3x3 basketball team????

Shortsightedly, I told the family we'd go to the Grange Fair on Friday. Guess I'll have to catch Mitchell and Rocco in the finals.

Pan-Am games are so boring, there is nobody there who even tests our guys.

Times for this today through Friday is 9 a.m. to start and then 5 p.m. for the finals. Mesenbrink and Welsh both start in the quarters of their respective weight classes.

Alright, here's what we know so far:

Welsh is the seventh match on Mat A. He's actually right after Bassett, if anyone wants to watch him in action. Both are quarterfinals.

Mesenbrink is match 12 on Mat B.

It looks like the stream is focused on Mat B, so not sure we're going to see Welsh's match live.

Penn State wrestler Rocco Welsh scored early and often in what was ultimately an 11-2 technical fall triumph in his 86-kilogram Junior Pan-Ams quarterfinal with Juan Cardoza of Columbia. He'll wrestle in the semifinals later today.
