Mesenbrink wins his quarter 11-0. They didn't show it, so with apologies, no idea how it happened, but I think we all have a pretty good idea of how it happened regardless.
Penn State's Mitchell Mesenbrink made quick work of Arnoldo Ariel Proboste of Argentina in his 74-kilogram quarterfinal. The reigning NCAA champ quickly built an 11-0 lead to stop the match by technical fall. The Lions are two-for-two in the quarters. The semis are later today.
Mesenbrink's 74-kilogram semifinal opponent is Ricardo Oyoque Vasquez of Venezuela.
Welsh's 86-kilogram semifinal opponent is Max Franca Magalhaes De Almeida of Brazil, who won U20 Pan-Ams silver.
Wish I had a good answer for you. They keep updating the bout order site with more matches in front of Mesenbrink and Welsh. Both listed as in the hole on their respective mats at the moment but, hard to say.
Alright, they're rolling in the semis. Mesenbrink and Welsh are two bouts away. Guessing 5-10 mins, maybe as much as 15.
Welsh was in on a low single but great counter and scramble behind by Brazil puts Welsh in an early 2-0 hole.
Welsh picks up on Brazil's leg with five minutes to go and is able to finish a shot on the egde to tie this match at two in the first period.
Amid a scramble its Welsh with the better counter and he gets behind the Brazil wrestler for a 6-2 lead. He then forces a step out on the restart to make it 7-2 with 3:46 on the clock.
Another takedown for Welsh and it's 9-2 near the end of the first period.

Nittany Lion newcomer Rocco Welsh was also perfect in his first two bouts at 86 kilograms with a pair of technical falls. He won his quarter 13-1 and his semi 11-2.

I did the math - USA floor 120, Cuba ceiling 115. USA clinched gold trophy already. KInd of like our NCAA's.
